Backstory Yewinfyn was born on a colony on a planet whose name he can't remember, and whose location he can't find. His family was the fifth generation of colonists on this planet, and they had adapted to the location and learned to live in harmony with the flora, while properly hunting the fauna. They were mostly removed from core Floran society, though they did receive and send updates from time to time. When Yewinfyn was still an infant, a Hylotl raiding party found his settlement and attacked immediately. His mother was able to escape with him on a starship, leaving behind the rest of the settlement; a choice she regretted until the day she died. Yew never blamed her for her decision, though he does often wonder what his family and friends were like. Yew and his mother lived on their starship for a year, when she found a quiet, remote planet she could settle down on. As Yew grew up, he was taught to hunt and farm. More settlers showed up over the years, and a small community grew. Yew became an important member of the community there. Then, one year ago, his mother died. Yew was (and still is) heartbroken, but he couldn't let it interfere with his job or his people. He tended his crops and led his village until such a time as a replacement could be found, then he took his mother's ship and took to the stars.
