Description: The Symbiotes are a race of slime-like aliens, who usually assimilate into the host by replacing a vital organ with its own cells, thus forcing them together. The Symbiotes can form a small blob on top of the host's head, which is usually just for aesthetic purposes. They are translucent and squishy. History of Aug/Tech: Native creatures of a planet. A singular one was brought into fringespace in her host, Riath. How does it work?: The Riath Symbiotes were a race of weak, easily killed slimes. To survive being the weakest creatures on the planet, they evolved to be able to latch on to a host, mainly predators. Once inside the host, the Symbiote would replace a vital organ. typically the hosts heart, with its own cells, allowing it to perform bodily functions more effectively. The Symbiote would also influence the host to be more aggressive and search for more food, also making the host get hungrier and hungrier. As the host searched harder for more food and exerted itself, it would build up muscles, making it stronger than an uninfected member of its kind. After a short period, the Symbiote would mature, and the host would return to normal, no longer perpetually hungry, but still retaining its strength. The Symbiote would live off the hosts nutrients, making it require a little more food, but no longer inclining it to kill and consume everything. The symbiote usually developed its own personality depending on the actions and intelligence of the host. For example, one inhabiting a dog would develop the intelligence of a dog and act as such. However, one that bonded with a sentient being would develop intelligence on-par with the host. When the heart is replaced, the symbiote starts by gradually replacing the cells of the heart with it's own, making sure that it is a near-perfect replica of the heart. The process can take anywhere from two months, to half a year. Regular human hearts have all their cells replaced every six months, and due to the symbiote speeding up the rate of cell growth, the replacing of the heart can possibly be finished much quicker than in a regular human heart. The Symbiote causes changes in hormone levels which change the metabolic rate and stuff. And the slime that is exuded from the head has an appearance similar to coloured mucus. It is produced in the mucus glands, but is different from mucus in that it is solely meant to be exuded from the skin. It works somewhat like Oobleck in terms of texture. It forms a mass on top of the hosts head by travelling through the bloodstream slowly,(so as not to clog up the blood vessels with gross slime) before being ejected from pores on the hosts head. The slime can be reabsorbed back into the hosts head, and will be broken down into waste materials, travelling back through the bloodstream. The slime will usually just be wiped off whenever the host feels like it, as the host will usually consider the fact that it's gross as fuck to reabsorb slime that's been out in the dusty air into their bloodstream. To communicate with the host, the Symbiote carries out a process similar to normal hearing, but directly triggers the hearing nerve and make the host hear things. By doing this, the Symbiote is able to speak to the host by simply making the host hear it's voice. Because of this ability, if it chooses to do so, the Symbiote can pretend to be something that the host would listen to. For example, a Symbiote that wants to exert more control over a host could convince a religious host that it was their god. Or, the Symbiote could go down a darker path in manipulating the host, taking over the host by exerting control over all their actions, like behavior altering parasites in humans. Only much stronger, to the point where they can put the host's consciousness in a vegetative state while taking control over the body and using it as it's own. However, this only happens rarely. For example, if the host is an edgy idiot who constantly endangers his own and the Symbiote's life by doing dumb things like picking fights or leaping off roofs, the Symbiote may take control to preserve it's own life. Intended use: Doesn't really have an intended use, as it is simply found in nature. Strengths: Slightly Improved physical strength and stamina. The host can recover from wounds faster than regular members of their race. For example, a small cut, bruise or scraped knee would usually last a few days, or maybe a week to disappear completely. But with the help of the Symbiote, they can be repaired almost overnight. Bullet injuries will take a bit more than this, but will recover faster than normal. However, major injuries such as having their arm cut off will always require additional medical aid. In these cases, the Symbiote can only slightly speed up the rate of recovery by helping in the regeneration of cell tissue. The Symbiote serves as a second conscience, of sorts, and can talk to the host. This can also be a weakness if the Symbiote develops a malicious personality or tries to challenge the host for control of the body. Weaknesses: While the host can carry out physical activity for a longer period of time, the host will also need to rest for a longer period of time after aforementioned physical activity. The host will require large quanities of food to stay alive, as the Symbiote's metabolic rate is quite high. If left without food the host will begin feeling the effects of starvation about twice as fast as a regular member of their species. The Symbiote serves as a second conscience, of sorts, and can talk to the host. This can be a weakness if the Symbiote develops a malicious personality or tries to challenge the host for control of the body. Most of the time, the host will suffer from deformities or irregularities when being cloned, due to the dna of the Symbiote being present within the body being cloned. How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?: I believe that this will provide an interesting and somewhat original character for the server.
