Name: Neknea (Plural is Nekneas) Description: A taxidermised Neknea. The eyes lose their glow when the animal dies. Nekneas are a species native to the Chinaut homeworld of Scalb. More specifically, the continent of Vrass. They are small, with four stubby limbs. Necneas have two massive, pink eyes, granting them amazing night vision. Sunlight causes them great pain, however. They have large ears, sensitive to high-pitched noises. Their teeth are also large and they have an overbite. The bite force of a Neknea is enough to puncture the flesh or chitin plates of most of the other armored organisms on Scalb. They are venomous. One Nekneas venom is not enough to kill. But being swarmed by a mob of angry creatures is sure to leave the prey puking up their intestines. The natives typically keep them away by using devices that create high-pitched noises. Behavior: Nekneas typically run amok in fields and forests. They hunt at night. In the low lighting, their shining pink eyes blend in with the glowing pink flowers of Vrass. Nekneas hunt in swarms of up to fifty individuals. They tend to have a single Neknea act as a distraction, while the rest sneak up on their prey and take them down with sheer numbers. An individual Neknea is easily killed by nearly anything, but they seem to have no regard for their own lives when rushing prey in a swarm. Nekneas hunt at night, spending the days buried underground in burrows. Their pale bodies blend in with white flowers located in many of Vrass' fields. They reproduce fast, to make up for their suicidal hunting tactics. The creatures spend the day sleeping, mating or digging out tunnels. Tamability: Extremely aggressive to anything that enters the fields. And venomous too. Because of this, the native race, the Chinauts, have not attempted to tame or domesticate these creatures. However, they could be tamed given enough time. Where is it found?: Flower fields and forests on the continent of Vrass, on the planet of Scalb. Rarity: Very common. Diet/Method of gaining nutrients and energy: Carnivorous and cannibalistic. Nekneas that die while hunting are returned to their burrows for the rest to feed on. Products?: Meat and venom can be extracted. Their teeth were used to make arrows, back in the tribal era. Reproduction: Neknea mating consists of several males dueling for the right to breed with a female. The defeated suitors are killed and fed to the female. After fertilization, the female will give birth to a litter of 10-12 helpless baby Nekneas, after a period of 2 months. Size: The size of a small rabbit.
