    History

Meryl grew up in a tiny colony between Bacchus and Nagai, which was mostly made up of Earth refugees and their descendants. She grew up listening to her grandfather tell stories of his experience as an artillery expert working on Earth leading up to the calamity, which inspired Meryl to follow in his footsteps. Despite growing up in an agricultural community, life within the military appealed to her for its perceived endless possibilities. At seventeen, she earned a recommendation from a local veteran and scored high enough in her tests to enroll within one of the numerous United Systems of Humanity’s officer training programs.

Meryl graduated from the officer training program as a second lieutenant when she turned 21, being placed within the USCM along with many of her closest friends and peers. Her first task was a typical post assignment on the edge of the Eastern border near Hakira, where bandits were sporadically recorded to travel near. Most of her two year contract at the base went by with nothing of note occurring - Meryl befriended many of her brethren at the outpost and performed her duties as senior targeting officer admirably. During her assigned posting, she was tasked to experiment with liquid propellant in surface-to-surface and surface-to-sky artillery. Acting as a crucial link between chemical development and field testing teams, liquid propellant poses a new and valuable alternative to current methods of kinetic ordinance delivery.

Near the end of her post, though, a supposed mix-up in identification beacons identified a colonel’s transport barge as a raider freighter, and following Meryl’s orders, the barge was shot out of the sky with significant loss of life. The fratricide incident reached sector headlines quickly, and without consulting doctrine or her superiors first, Meryl abandoned her post four days before her scheduled performance assessment, accidentally taking some valuable artillery equipment on her shuttle as she left.

Following the disaster which ended her career, Meryl disappeared into a life of hiding. At the insistence of her grandfather, she began making her way to the Fringe, with hopes that pursuit from any Peacekeeper organizations would be abandoned as she left their jurisdiction. She lost her entire life’s fortunes during her escape, eventually having to take on odd jobs to keep her ship fueled as she fled west. At one point she fell in with a subsidiary of Pluto Solutions, who she still remains connected to in the present day.

    Combat

    Peaceful or violent: Violent.
    Weapons: FB MSBS Grot
    M720 .357 Magnum
    Vibroblade Ka-Bar
    1 EMP grenade
    1 Fragmentation grenade
All weapons are modified appropriately to compete in the 33rd century.
Style of fighting: She’ll try to defeat her enemies before they can respond, by any means necessary. Has received basic combatives training from the USCM but relies on her Polish way of fighting in hand-to-hand.

    Others

    Occupation: Veterans 3rd class, AAF.
Favorite types of food: Meaty, filling foods. She keeps a recipe book passed down her family line.
Favorite types of drink: Drinks water in the day, and ginger ale mixed in with various boozes at night.
Hobbies: Tries to keep herself occupied with stuff she deems “work”. When she isn't performing duties assigned to her by Atlas, she's completing work given to her by her other bosses.
Guilty pleasures: Reading really raunchy, poorly written romance novels.
Pet peeves: People bugging her constantly, or micromanaging her work.
Pets: She owns a Kul-bred maned wolf and a Fennix.
Talents: Geometry, math, chemistry, electrical engineering. Nothing doctorate worthy, but enough for EOD and artillery work.
Favorite type of music: Anything and everything old earth.

    Current Augments

As fitting for an artillery officer, she possesses a rangefinding software installed in her vision, zoom up to 16x magnification, and primitive recording software. While easily blocked by shielding, as an EOD officer she has the ability to detect electric currents, trace chemicals, and various tripwires. Requires a ton of focus to use. Her eyes work through a 'sleeve' on her frontal lobe which operates on her bioelectric current, protecting them from EMP attacks, but if she's knocked in the head enough they'll cease to operate. Requires medicine to curb physical and psychological effects.

    ALLIES
    • Joren and the Kul - One of her very first friends in the Fringe. While she's quick to dismiss him and the Kul as godless hedonists, she's grateful for the opportunities and companionship they offer.
    • Shawn Rhodes - Likely one-sided, but Meryl sees him as a fantastic leader and was disappointed to see him go. She's glad she worked with him while she had the chance.
    • Leyna Steele - She's a dork, and she's technically paying Meryl for protection, but they've reached the point in their relationship where Meryl wants to put Leyna on a better path. A path of revenge, sure, but she sees it as positive development nonetheless.
    • Ki'a - She's not sure what to think of the strange dragon/lizard person, but she's glad that she successfully pulled him into the lifting cult. There are many features about him that she finds useful, too.

      ENEMIES
    • John Walker - This guy ambushed her on the street and shot her in the gut when he was losing the fight. What a dickhead!
    • 'Al' and the Suits - They're the ones who paid Walker to ambush her in the first place. They also freely disrespect tradition in order to complete their projects. If it's not a personal grudge, then they're certainly in Meryl's way.
