    [/b]Name of Aug/Tech: [/b]Laser Optics[IMG]

[/b]Description[/b]: Laser optics appear as regular optics do, however tend to come in a variety of sizes; this helps their true function remain concealed, and is often times unexpected by the user's enemies as beams of lasers suddenly discharge. The beam is displayed as bright and continuous, being colored depending on the gases present in the gain medium, most often being red. During its charge time, the iris of the laser optic will glow whatever color laser it is about to fire.

[/b]History of Aug/Tech:[/b] Laser optics have existed for hundreds of years, surfacing as weapons for various beings from Eyeguard to Glitch. It is said that hundreds of years ago Glitch Archmages constructed laser optics as weapons to be used, spreading across the galaxy and being adopted by not just Glitch, but androids and even organics. Laser optics are an especially desired tool by Glitch Doom Lords, as their many optics that serve as their status could now also be used as a weapon to instill fear into others.

[/b]How does it work?:[/b] Laser optics use modern laser technology to fire a continuous beam of concentrated photonic energy that scorches and melts their target. Builds of laser optics may vary depending on its construction and purpose, whether it be a cybernetic eye for a human or the glowing optic of a Glitch. All laser optics use the refracting lens used in optics to double as a laser concentrator that focuses the reflecting light within the gain medium into a beam. The gain medium of an optical laser contains the high energy mixture of gases that many modern lasers use, with mixtures of gases depending on the color of the desired laser that emits through the diode. The laser diode, essentially, is the lens of the optic.

Due to the need for the optic to be small and compact, the laser instead utilizes a charge system to fire due to the lack of a longer build for a higher concentration and larger gain medium. Special reflecting mirrors within the gain medium will reflect high-energy photons as the gain medium is ionized, collecting energy through the seconds as the laser optic charges. Then, at the will of the user, the laser is released into a constant stream that persists for twice the length the laser was charged. If the laser charged for 3 seconds, the fired laser will beam out continuously for 6 seconds. As it charges, the vision of the optic gradually becomes more and more blured, leaving the user open to attack. Aside from this, much weaker lasers that have difficulty burning skin can also be created without the need for charge, simply for show or if a Doom Lord desires attention during a rave. Because the laser is constant, it is weaker than laser projectiles due to the size; this is often overcome by either having simply a larger optic, or having several laser optics (which Glitch tend to benefit in). Multiple laser optics can work in tandem, firing at the same target, but also drawing more energy. Because lasers take much power to use, laser optics require compact batteries in the case of cybernetic eyes, or must be hooked up onto a power system in the case of androids or robots. Glitch are capable of instead linking laser optics to their body's power system, instead causing the laser optic to draw upon their ‘stamina' from each fire.

In addition to the drawback of needing power, laser optics will overheat from continuous fire. For every 12 seconds of continuous fire, the laser must take 12 seconds to cool down, unless cooldown time is allotted between short bursts. If the laser overheats, it will undergo an emergency shutdown which forces the optic to shut off its laser function and reduce its incoming vision; this state heavily blurs the user's vision, and persists for 15 minutes. If the overheating is extreme, the optic will fry completely and render the user blind of optical input until it is repaired. Additionally, due to the concentration of light exiting the optic, during fire the vision of the user is drastically reduced to that of simple blurs colored whatever the laser's color is. The laser can still target as it is being fired, but will render the user oblivious to any incoming attacks. If the user still has active optics that are not laser optics, however, they can utilize those to see instead.

[/b]Intended use:[/b] Firing lasers out your eyes.

    [/b]Strengths[/b]:

    - Fires a laser out of the optic which charges for seconds, and then fires a continuous laser for double that time.

    - Lasers will burn the target, melting iron at a concentrated point in 7 seconds when two laser optics are used.

    - Discreet; it is difficult to detect a laser optic until it begins to actually charge.

    - Can be combined with other optics, or have increased power with a larger optic.

    [/b]Weaknesses:[/b]

    - Must take time to charge, and the optics will glow as it does so. As it charges, the vision slowly becomes more blurred, leaving the user open to attack.

    - Can only charge for a maximum of 6 seconds.

    - Sight is extremely inhibited during fire.

    - Can overheat and must cool down; can even fry completely. For every 12 seconds of continuous fire, the laser must have 12 seconds to cool down.

    - Intakes much more power than a normal non-laser optic needs.

[/b]How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?:[/b] Introduces another laser weapon as an optic, that is difficult to detect. Plus, who doesn't want to fire lasers from their fucking eyes?
