Name: Gravitic Impartment Long Fall Boots (GILF Boots), "Earthshakers" Description: The Earthshaker Fall Boots appear as a large set of boots designed to fit with Imperium Juggernaut armor; the bottom of the boots appears to be composed of a 5 mm layer of durasteel, hydraulic pressed with a tread design much like the bottom of ordinary boots. Layered into the durasteel are rows of glowing blue hexagons, which are gravitic channels. Above the layer of durasteel is dozens of rows of small graphene shock absorbers that appear as compressed columns that absorb a large amount of impact shock; at the center of each shock absorber is a gravitic channel. Above the shock absorber and the durasteel plate is a thin, hollow casing of cerulium that protects the electronics. Finally, the rest of the boots are constructed of a flexible graphene coating with rows of 2mm durasteel plating layered with a very thin plating of bronze, as well as fiber straps that clip both tightly and comfortably onto the user. Flavor Text: The GILF boots were designed and constructed by the Magnum Imperium's greatest Glitch engineer, Mechazor, in order to server as a method of orbital insertion for the Imperium's elite juggernaut squad, the Earthshakers armed with heavy armor, Earthshaker boots, and gravity hammers. After the final design was done, the Imperium began to mass produce the Earthshaker boots for military use, and became among the most valuable assets of the Earthshaker squad, the ODSTs of the Imperium. How does it works: The science behind the Earthshaker boots works similar to that of gravity hammers; the heavy boots are worn by the juggernauts of the Imperium, who are all deployed at once from orbit; a typical method of deploying the Earthshakers was by launching them from a craft that was shot from the A.M.P.O. Antimatter Railgun; the craft entered orbit, containing the Earthshaker squad, and would deploy aegisalt-fabric drogue parachutes that would slow the craft down as it entered the atmosphere. Then, the craft decoupled and the individual juggernauts began to fly down to their target, typically a high-priority building. The juggernauts plummeted to the ground at terminal velocity, preparing to swing their gravity hammers with practiced timing and precision. After the drogue chutes slowed them down, user would impact the ground. As the impact occurred, the graphene shock absorbers transfer 80% of the impact to gravitic energy and 15% of the impact to remaining kinetic energy into the gravitic channels which are unleashed into the ground, creating a massive tremor and shockwave that cracks the ground immensely and knocks combatants off their feet, blowing dust and often times damaging buildings. As they impact the grounds, the Earthshaker juggernauts would also swing down their gravity hammers, using the built up energy to add onto the shockwave, effectively pulverizing whatever they land on. Combined with the power of the other landing juggernauts, the main power of the Earthshakers was the ability to easily level a building from the combined force; after landing the Earthshakers would begin combat, utilizing their hammers or firearms to engage the enemy at the objective itself. Though, the Earthshaker boots are able to be utilized during battle as well; a long jump is capable of delivering a lesser shock wave which may blow back dust or crack the earth – or bones. The boots are able to be used to stomp or trample opponents to shatter bones with ease, though take time to lift. The Earthshaker boots can also be utilized by other units as well, as it is an effective method of orbital insertion that allows the units to be deployed at any location. Other versions of the GILF boots have been utilized as well; civilian versions exist which do not deliver the destructive shockwave, instead safely using the kinetic energy of the fall to distribute the gravitic energy out of the boots to dampen the fall impact, such is a popular tool of thrill seekers and skydivers alike, who enjoy the very prospect of jumping extremely high and being able to land without a parachute. Strengths: -Delivers an extremely powerful shockwave upon impact that damages targets such as buildings or vehicles, and can knock down ordinary troops so that they may be dispersed. -Can be used out of impact to dampen fall and deliver weaker shockwaves. Weaknesses: -Has a maximum impact velocity; impacts at over 80 m/s will overload the shock absorbers and cause the systems to break as it unleashes the energy to save the user. This destroys the boots completely, and may break the user's legs. Impacts over 90 m/s will also destroy the boots completely, and will not succeed in protecting the user; most will instantly die from an impact at this speed with the boots. The boots will not slow the fall itself, but only redirect the force caused by it. -Utilizing a durasteel base, it weighs 8 kg; this makes it slow to move or lift with. Power armor helps this, though still is slow in lifting and moving with the boots. The civilian version of it weighs only 4.2 kg, however, lacking the militaristic functions. Attainability: Open Of course, however, variations exist; the technology has been replicated by different sources, and may appear unique; however, they bare the same function. For example, Imperium Earthshaker boots have the bronze plating to fit with the Imperium's color scheme. Tags: [Military]
