[♪] General Information Dave, full name David Clammate Ward, is a human man who has lived in the Fringe for around two to three years. He appears to be in his late twenties, and celebrates his birthday on April 1st. Dave is both a non-native citizen of the Haven Federation and a member of its senate. He also finds employment in the Atlas Corporation and is considered the friend of Horizon and several Andromian territories. Dave takes pride in his connections and often boasts about having 'friends in high places.' He considers himself the best friend of Gary Noose, and has a small family– a twin sister named Jane, a soon-to-be brother-in-law named Dan, and a Floran daugher nicknamed Archie. Jane is the only surviving blood relative; Archie is adopted. He also has a roommate living with him, a human named Galleux. Dave has two ex-girlfriends, Sylvia and Jessica. Mention of either of them makes him unhappy; especially Sylvia, whom he loathes. Physical Appearance Turacin, a vivid red pigment once unique to turaco birds. Dave is thin, stands at around 5'7", and appears to be human despite his quirks. He has bright red hair, icy blue eyes, pale skin and sharp, jagged teeth that faintly resembles that of a shark's. He is thin and gangly, almost underweight, and his skin never tans, only burns. He is heavily augmented, barely human by most standards. His hair is genemodded to contain Turacin, a copper-based pigment once only found in the feathers of an extinct Earth bird. His eyes give off a sheen like a cat's, thanks to the artificially inserted Tapetum lucidum that allows him to see in the dark. His fingers contain powerful laser diodes, useful for inflicting harm; his sinuses are modified to fill with blood in command, enabling him to shoot streams of blood from his eyes; and his senses are artifically extended by the presence of a Qarin, which very rarely sees use outside of the most dire of situations. The especially observant may even notice a small panel of metal on the back of his neck, equipped with a screen and a couple of computer ports. As far as Dave is concerned, this panel doesn't exist, and refuses to explain its function. This is unusual compared to his other augments, which all have obvious purposes, and were obtained willingly; the panel, on the other hand, seems to have been with him as long as he’s been in the Fringe. Dave likes comfortable clothing and leather. He always wears long sleeves, and is rarely seen without a leather jacket thrown on. His augmented eyes are often protected by a pair of red-tinted aviator sunglasses that he rarely removes. Dave likes to dress in blacks, whites, reds, blues, and purples. He has a wide collection of t-shirts with unusual phrases printed on them, some of which are in English, which is conveniently his first language. Personality Personality Type: ESFP (apparently) Political Ideology: Compared to the other senators, Dave is generally quiet about his actual political beliefs, since his main popularity comes from his excitable personality rather than any actual set of policies. However, there are still some issues that he has actual opinions on. As a Senator, he supports high educational funding and a strong military. He is a transhumanist and holds a very strong love for technology, believing that innovation holds the solution to any problem. Because of this, he is also a strong supporter of sapient AI rights and is deeply offended by any implication that they aren’t people. On top of that, he is pro-cloning, though this seems to come from the spiritual belief that souls exist and “come back” when a body is made— and that if a clone is made when the original is alive, that it will eventually “grow” its own soul and become a separate person. Of course, sometimes he'll tell the world he thinks something else entirely. Dave is erratic and unpredictable. He suffers from severe and sudden mood swings that he has no control over, and his emotions tend to the extremes. Some days he’ll be hyperactive, others he can’t leave his bed. When angry or in a good mood, he’ll chatter incessantly about whatever crosses his mind, tease and annoy whoever is near him, and raise his voice whenever possible. When unhappy, his mind runs slowly and he tends to keep to himself. Because he tends to be less social when he’s in a bad mood, most people only know him for his hyperactive side; most friends cite his yelling as his most distinctive quality. Despite this, Dave has several redeeming qualities. When he’s able to successfully calm himself down, he becomes a hard worker with a sharp, technical mind and an affinity for most electronics. He knows his way around most software and AI, and he knows how to teach himself in topics he’s unfamiliar with. He speaks both Galactic Common and English fluently, and knows a few phrases in Floran as well. And he’s as good with people as he is with AI; bafflingly, despite setting a bad first impression with almost every living creature he meets, he’s managed to get himself elected as a Senator and seems to have no trouble working his way into friend circles... even if his poor emotional control can get him kicked out later. Of course, this comes with a set of drawbacks. Dave’s mood swings often prevent him from using his time efficiently, and can often get him in trouble. He’s twitchy and easily alarmed, especially if exposed to one of his many fears. He’s prone to violent outbursts that he often regrets later, especially if somebody is seriously harmed. And despite being in the Fringe for several years, he’s never really got used to the sight of gore and dead bodies. He has a poor tolerance to pain, too. Dave is afraid of stinging insects, drowning, hospitals, needles, rejection and romance. He has trouble trusting most female doctors and therapists because they remind him of past relationships, and he often worries that his closer friends only tolerate him. This is especially true if they’re much more down-to-earth than him, and seem like they’d be too polite to tell him he’s not really their friend. Of all his fears, this last one is his greatest source of stress. He doesn’t talk about it at all, but it’s easy to tell who he thinks might secretly dislike him. These people end up followed around as he constantly tries to appeal to them, hoping they’ll give some kind of positive response in return. Backstory An abnormal CT scan taken from Dave on February 18, 3285. At his request, all Atlas records of it were destroyed. Dave appeared out of the blue, without warning, reason or ceremony. His first public appearance was on a public Fringe radio channel, where he was confused, lost, and very, very angry. There, he met other Fringegoers, learned their names, and began to attend their parties and social events, despite the amount of times they got him injured. He gained notoriety for the sheer force of his irrational rage, concentrated with laser focus at everything that moved, completely without cause, reason or purpose. He would often spend hours shouting at anybody who even slightly offended him, and would grow so worked up that he would be sent into coughing fits that rendered him completely mute. While he spoke very little of his personal life at first, it was clear that he had no house, income, or personal possessions of any kind; instead depending entirely on the charity of his girlfriend, Sylvia Praxis, who very quickly became abusive. As time passed, he broke up with Sylvia, got a job as an Atlas engineer and moved into a house of his own. He began to connect with other people and built a solid friendgroup, consisting of people just as stupid and unpredictable as him. He entered the Pristilite Prix and despite losing the first race, got his first taste of real fame. After the Haven Federation opened their borders, he applied for citizenship and started a gang with his friends in the Corrav district– they all made a lot of money. As he grew more and more successful, his distinctive anger at the world began to fade. By the time he ran for Grand Protector in 3284 (and lost,) his fury had cooled to something else entirely; eccentricity, and a lust for power. Frustrated rants became stream-of-consciousness tangents on completely irrelevant topics. A desire to injure the unfamiliar turned into a desire to become it. The screaming stayed, but became excited; fervent. He would appear on rooftops, under bridges, crawling out of ovens and fridges right after they were thought to be empty. He began to climb walls. Months after he lost the first election, he ran for Haven Senator and lost again, by just a couple hundred votes. But the Senator he lost to went in to commit treason, and left a seat open that needed to be filled. Dave, the next in line, was begrudgingly allowed in. When he reran next term, everybody– including himself– expected him to be replaced. But this didn't happen– he won. He had attracted too much attention, generated too much free publicity to go unnoticed. Despite all this, it isn't clear where Dave comes from. His homeplanet is unknown, and he isn't native to Haven or any Civspace nation. No matter how much he likes to talk about himself, he never brings up where he's from. On particularly quiet evenings, when the time is just right, he may be persuaded to share pieces of his old home with the sympathetic. What is publicly known is that his early life was quiet, pleasant, and that he misses it very much.
