Stage 1 app: The Pitch Mantis-like carnivores, with a simplistic culture and architecture. The Snapshot The Chinauts are a fairly young race, insect-like in appearance, possessing segmented bodies, exoskeletons and three pairs of limbs. All their limbs are located on the middle section of the body, the Thorax. While they have functional arms and legs, the middle pair of limbs are smaller than their bladed upper arms, used for more precise and dexterous movements. Chinauts have powerful legs, allowing them to leap great distances and heights with relative ease. They possess lungs, inhaling and exhaling through several holes in their throats. Some Chinauts possess wings, but the only thing they're good for is making sounds and whipping up air. Chinaut wings cannot be used to fly but can aid them in their jumps. Chinauts resemble mantises in appearance, possessing long limbs and sharp blades at the end of their arms. They have clawed digits at the joint between the arm and blade, allowing them to use them as hands. Chinauts possess internal genitalia, extending outside the body to mate. The females lay a large number of eggs in a gooey ootheca, which are then kept safely in incubation chambers. Typically, only 3-10 of the hundreds of thousands of eggs laid hatch. Child neglect is extremely common amongst Chinauts due to the large population due to the large number of children. Typically, one or two are kept, with the rest being conscripted into the military or sent off into monasteries. Chinaut reproduction carries a few risks. While they abhor the idea and do their best to control it, deeply ingrained in the instincts of female Chinauts is the need to decapitate and consume the male during coitus. Occasionally, Chinauts succumb to their primal instincts, killing their partner during mating. These events are usually considered manslaughter and accidental, though serving time in prison is mandatory. There are a variety of religions the Chinauts follow. A popular one is similar to Daoism, with the belief that one should be at peace with nature and let it take it's course. Practitioners of it stay still for long hours each day, either deep in meditation or observing their surroundings. There are also cults and smaller pantheons of gods. Chinauts have an extremely high population density in their cities and towns. There exist many different nations, with several smaller populations of Chinauts not affiliated with any one nation. Chinauts have a rather primitive culture for the time-period (3284), living in large, tall apartment buildings and with digital media being extremely prevalent in their daily life. Chinauts utilise their leaping ability to get around the cities easily, and most highways have elevated ramps on either side for Chinauts to leap across. Their technology itself is fairly advanced compared to their culture, especially in terms of vehicles. They have not discovered FTL just yet, but are sending both manned and unmanned ships out into space. Chinauts hail from the planet of Scalb, a beautiful world high in oxygen content. Megafauna walk the planet, along with massive Leviathans in the seas. The planet is 65% water, with the remaining natural land being mostly forest and jungle. A large amount of land has been mowed down to make space for Chinaut cities.
