Here's a question that came to my mind for the players and characters of GC. What are you character's goals? Is there anything they're working towards? Anything they want? How close is your character to achieving those goals? What goals has your character already accomplished?
With the only character, I have so far (Joseph Lamb), is to find out why he was drifting around in space for a week until he found the Fringe. But, in a brilliant case of character development, his ambitions turned from 'I gotta find the Truth' to 'I gotta find a Job' because tools to fix a near-derelict ship cost money. Now that I got a Job ICly, I can work towards fitting in that 'missing past' stuff and a bunch of other things, and that includes going back to the whole 'Find the Truth' bit. Unless he gets suplexed, because I feel like that is gonna happen at one point, and he is gonna instantaneously die from how weaksauce he is.
It's taken a long time for Mir to truly get a "goal", but I would have to say that his goal is to use his knowledge of machinery and robotics to help people. Right now, he sees building prosthetic as his way to achieve that goal, as they could help people who've lost their limbs in accidents or attacks. Mir is currently working towards this goal by spending a good bit of time coming up with ideas for improved prosthetic, ones which would be able to help people more. He wants to take those ideas, and actually build them, because a hypothetical limb does less good for people than a real one. Unfortunately, prototyping and testing can take a rather large amount of money, and Mir is currently finding work as a freelancer, so while he isn't exactly impoverished, he doesn't have the funds to just build everything he thinks up. So I suppose the next step for his goal would be to find a stable job. Given that his goal is just generically "help people using his robotics and machinery skills", achieving the goal is a thing he's already accomplished, in some sense. But it is something he'll still work towards, because there are still more people to help. One goal that Mir has already accomplished is "don't die again". He's really happy that he has managed that, so far, and he hope's to keep it up.
Rose's goals have switched to different priorities. At first she wanted to grow up the chain of command in Atlas (killed by Vittoria's insistence on LOA due to their deal) Then it was assisting Gary with the Ruin (killed by her first death at a religious synthetic society gathering, and Gary breaking ties with her) Right now, her only goals are survival and seeking therapy. She tends to change priorities a lot. Long term, she seeks to break off from the Avalice name and start her own family. Contrary to popular belief, she does not like fighting. Fenyang on the other hand, is a simple one. Provide for his village and help it grow. He wants to be a renowned warrior, and fight in the CBL to win the affection of a fellow villager he's taken a liking to.
Dave wants power, prestige, and wealth. Lots and lots of wealth. He sees himself as evil genius and wants to live a hedonistic lifestyle with lots of loyal minions and piles of diamonds, but at this point he's too afraid to risk his senatorial position to actually get anything anymore. Not that his current life is too bad, he is rich and famous, just not... swimming-pools-of-money, owns-a-fleet, commands-robot-army Grom levels of rich and famous. This is the source of a lot of frustration for him at the moment so he deals with it by surrounding himself with people he thinks are stupid and easy to manipulate, and pretending they're his loyal minions. It's the closest he can get to his unrealistic power fantasy without breaking Haven law or doing something that would put off his voterbase. If he didn't have to worry about that, it would be safe to say he would be robbing so many banks right now. CIRCLEEYE wants to live a very specific kind of ideal life, essentially one where they do their job as a high guardian perfectly. Most Visitant feel most at ease when they are contributing to society– it gives them a feeling of "purpose" that is hard to live without. In CE's case, this contribution is their high guardian role in Haven, and their entire identity revolves around it. They pride themselves in being calculated and efficient in their actions and sincerely believe this makes them best suited for their line of work. I have no idea what they'd do with themselves if they were ever fired, but it would probably be pretty bad. Archie, being an impulsive teen who hasn't had a lot of control over her life until very recently, doesn't have any long-term goals. She does, however, want to further investigate precursor activity on Garlen and Ordo. It's something she thinks she's smart enough to do and being one of the few people in the "know" on the subject makes her feel special.
Lloyd wants to become Emperor of Atlas and start a dynasty to carry on the legacy of Matt Enfield. He doesn't want to own the Fringe, or bring order to it, he wants to carve out a place for the old people of Atlas to live and to atone for the sins of the High Atlases after Enfield.
