    Solar System Name: Athis
    Star type: K
    Location:

The Athis system hovers far above the galactic plane, at 2838 parsecs (pc). Technically, the system is plummeting at 1 000 000 kilometres per hour down towards the galactic plane. The system has a high incline compared to the galactic ecliptic, and so cycles between both sides of the galactic plane. The system is expected to clear the galactic plane and emerge on the other side in around 10 million years. What effect this will have on the nearby hyperlane is currently unknown.

    Planet Name: Tenoko
    Environment:
Tenoko is a smaller world, with a radius of around 5, 600 kilometres (for context, earth is around 6, 400 km), with its surface gravity at around 0.95 g’s. At a glance, Tenoko appears much like a desert world, with most of the planets surface being covered in karst, jagged mountain landscapes of sandstone and basalt. Despite seeming very dry, Tenoko is incredibly rich in water, only the vast majority of it is trapped in a deep, warm underground ocean. This ocean breaks the surface in the form of large sinkholes, geysers and canyons, which forms a massive, interconnected system of rivers, great lakes and underground tunnels which stretch across the planet like a fine web.

Much of the surface then is considered uninhabitable with it being impossibly dry and sparse, and having terrain that can only be described as “unsuitable for construction”. As such, most of the planet's population live in small towns and communities which form around river canyons and sinkholes in the terrain. The strata here is usually a soft sandstone and the terrain is much smoother and softer due to weathering, so most carve their homes directly out of the mountains. In addition, these surface water sources are far more hospitable in other ways, as the air is cooler and there is plenty of flora and fauna.

Resources: Tenoko is rich in food, water and many valuable and rare metals and minerals. Tenoko is perhaps most famous for its plentiful export of rare gems, specifically the Tenokan sapphire or “blood galaxy ruby”. This gemstone bears a deep reddish purple colour and a glassy structure, with impurities which form cloudy, swirling patterns in red and pink and with specks of yellow, white and blue. Looking into a Tenokan ruby then makes it seem as if you’re looking into a deep red galaxy.
Population Size: Around 50 000 individuals. The vast majority of the population consists of hylotl, due to its history with hylotl space. There’s also a considerable portion of novakid and floran.
Settlements: Much of the population lives in sparse, bustling settlements or the odd, lone home in and around the canyons and sinkholes. There is no global government, with settlements and people having to fend for themselves, though the overall atmosphere is generally relaxed.
Notes: Most anyone living on Tenoko knows how to operate simple aircraft, as the easiest way to get from one place to another is via electric aircraft. These take many forms, such as airplanes, ornithopters or even the odd blimp. Boats are also popular, though limited as they can only navigate a single, interconnected water system.

    Planet Name: Koani
    Environment:

At over 25 000 kilometres in radius, Koani is a cold ice giant orbiting far out in the Athis system. With nine cold, icy moons. Aside from small scale water and fusion fuel mining operations, as well as a minor erchius mine on one of the moons. There isn’t much happening on or around Koani.

Resources: Small amounts of hydrogen, oxygen and various gaseous elements. There’s also plentiful extraction of liquid water, certain rare metals and elements as well as a small, local erchius mine.

There are an additional 3 small, icy bodies further out past Koani of little notability.

History: Athis was originally settled by the hylotl, during the mid to late 31st century. Rising tension in hylotl society caused the creation and expansion of a great intelligence network which spanned much of open space around the hylotl territories, with Athis as its crowning jewel. Hylotl cartographers and spies were settled on Athis, and more specifically on Tenoko, where they studied the galaxy from above. This bird's eye perspective allowed many of the known hyperlanes to be contextualised against the greater galaxy, and territorial expansions to be carefully monitored from a safe distance.

However for much of its early existence, Athis was what was known as a “cold settlement”. The presence of the colony was heavily classified, and few even knew of it, let alone how to navigate to it. Its distant location, and less than obvious hyperlane made navigating to it incredibly difficult at the time. It wasn’t until the end of the galactic war when Athis would become public knowledge. Most of the hylotl owned military and government infrastructure was either dismantled or abandoned, as the hylotl government withdrew from the system. What followed was a wave of colonists, intrigued by the unique location of the system, who took up shop in Athis.

To this day, Athis is relatively sparsely populated, with most either living off the land or continuing in the previous owners footsteps. Still, Athis maintains one of the largest starchart databanks in the fringe, and acts as almost a “galactic GPS” to aid in navigation across the galaxy.
