    want to "debut" as a character who's half alpaca, like a cross-breed between the alpaca race from vanilla starbound and a human. is that legal?

    Alpacas are part of our lore, but they can't really crossbreed with anything else. That applies to just about every species.

    They're called the Ehvin. You can find them here.

    does that mean i'm out of luck or i should submit a species request that will probably be rejected or what?

    edit: or perhaps call it a genetically modified human? i'm sorry for being so ignorant about all this, but the lore seems practically endless and i'm more concerned about the characters to meet than the world

    You're out of luck for a Human/Ehvin crossbreed, yes.
    Gene-modding is a thing, and it could sort of accomplish what you're looking for, it's just that it'll probably include a plethora of health complications depending on how expansive the modifications are.
