Name of Aug/Tech: APATE Mk. III Changeling Suit

    Description:
The APATE Mk. III Changeling Suit resembles a HERMES Cloaking Suit in terms of its fabric, having very similar scaling on its fabric but with some key differences in its structure. The suit overall covers the entire body head to toe, with the mask instead covering the entire face tightly. Instead of a thick battery pack on the back, the suit utilizes a thinner, more flexible cerullium-graphene battery that is layered across the upperback below the layering of APATE scales. In an inactive appearance, the suit appears a dull gray with cells of the APATE fabric on it. On the top of the suit, at the head, is several tiny photonic hardlight projectors that are used to mimic hair.

    History of Aug/Tech:
The APATE Mk. III Changeling Suit was initially designed based off of study of nanomaterials and of research of the HERMES Cloaking Suit; this stage of design was conducted by the Co-CEO of AkCorp, N.O.R.A., and was then put into AkCorp's production line to sell to its various customers.

    How does it work?:
The APATE Mk. III Changeling Suit works utilizing the many cells of nanomaterial on the suit. The cells are layered atop a suit of flexible graphene that sticks tight onto the user, adhering to the wearer's general form after it is fitted to the user's size during production. The APATE cells are composed of a layer of nanomachines that act as camouflaging agents, recoloring themselves to appear as different materials or skin tones so that the user can be disguised. The APATE nanomachines are also able to expand from each other, allowing the ability to mimic facial structure or the textures of different materials by elevating different regions of the cells. Each cell is connected to a complex network of ultra-thin wiring that connects each scale in a net that connects to a main mainframe; this mainframe is left with a blank input upon delivery, allowing the user to hook the APATE suit to a neurological interface or a datapad to control it.To mimic eye structure, the APATE cells covering the eyes change shape and become transparent to the wearer's vision.

The mainframe of the APATE suit contains a specially coded software that allows the suit to function. The suit stores files of different individuals based on a series of scans done; these files utilize data taken by pictures or videos of the individual to be mimicked to construct a copy of them, and can be uploaded with pictures of a camera or even data taken by a cybernetic eye or a connected optic. Once the picture or video files are uploaded, the software takes 30 minutes to analyze the media and file the individual to how the pictures appeared it as. Flash constructions can also be completed, allowing mimics to be made with simply one picture. However, a flash mimic will always lack detail that the true individual has, whether it be scars or even a mole on the skin. The APATE software comes preloaded with files of mimics that can be loaded on the spot; the files contain 5 different images of each gender for each standard race, all scanned and coded by N.O.R.A. based on surveys of random individuals. Mimic files, denoted by the notation ‘.apate', can also be manually written from 3D models and such.

The APATE suit takes only 3 seconds to fully construct a mimic of another individual; this is particularly useful if one must change appearance in the spur of the moment, for whatever reason it may be. As it constructs, the entire wearer simply appears to change colors and body texture; during this process the hardlight projector also constructs opaque hair based on the .apate file's specifications, using the projector to reduce the rigidness of the hair to mimic normal hair or other types of head assets such as foliage for Florans, head modules for Glitch, beaks and feather plumes for Avians, and so on.

While the suit is especially useful for espionage, its effectiveness is hindered in combat. The cells can be damaged from cuts, bullets, energy, and EMPs. When faced with ballistic and energy projectiles or blades, the area of the wound is cut and the cells in that area revert to their blank, gray state that reveals the user's incognito state. An EMP attack against the suit renders it damaged, causing the cells to remain in their current disguised state as the sensitive electronics within the computer become damaged; in the case of an EMP, the suit will no longer be able to change forms until the sensitive electronics are repaired by a technician. Armor and clothing, however, can be worn above the APATE suit, and is also often necessary to fully be convincing in its deception. When the cells are damaged, it requires an expert technician to fully repair the nanomaterials and electrical circuits; wearers themselves may not have the knowledge to do this, but can send their suit to AkCorp to be repaired for a fee. This process of repair takes 2 OOC days, with the suit of course not being accessible for the duration.

The suit also comes with a voice modulator to synthesize a mimic voice; this uses the latest in voice changing technology to do so, but requires various audio samples of the individual to be mimicked, totalling to a total of 100 words with a variety of inflections. The more, the better.

While the suit is effective in taking on the identity of another, it of course will never be able to copy another's personality; this ultimately is left to the ability of the wearer to act other roles, which leaves opportunities to reveal their false identity. If a consensus based on these notions cannot be made between arguing parties, a table of rolling has been created for this purpose depending on how well the person interacting with the APATE wearer knows the individual in question. Rolling should be done by a third party, with percentages being true if a d100 is rolled on or below the target percentage. This assumes the APATE wearer is at least decent at acting.

Relationship between the mimicked individual and the opposing observer.

    Chance for suspicion

    Complete stranger

    100% Success Rate

    Acquaintance

    95% Success Rate

    Friend

    80% Success Rate

    Close Friend

    65% Success Rate

Extremely Close (Spouse, bestest friend, butt buddies, family, etc.)

    20% Success Rate

Of course, exceptions can be made; if the user is extremely knowing of the mimicked personality, it may be difficult to determine authenticity of the individual without tests. As for testing, one could simply ask questions that only the real individual will know, or simply damage the APATE suit and reveal the gray cells. The table above also assumes that the mimicked individual has been interacting with the observer for an extended time; brief remarks or other short conversations may go unnoticed.

The APATE suit is powered by a 2-mm thick cerulium-graphene battery that covers the entire upper back using series of horizontally layered electrolyte cells. The battery powers the suit's changeling ability, drawing power every time the suit transforms. The APATE suit does not draw power as it is not transforming, however, and supplies enough energy for 7 continuous transformations. To recharge it, one must simply unseal the suit (which has a line running from the nape of the neck to the back of the waist to do so) and connect the bottom of the battery to a power source. If the battery is damaged from an attack, the suit will no longer be able to change until repaired, though damaging the battery would also damage the APATE cells that are layered on the battery.

The APATE suit is also not able to mimic height, though its cells can expand to make the individual appear only 2” higher. It is not uncommon to see wearers of the APATE suit wearing special stilts or bionic legs to compensate for this.

Intended use: Using high technology to deceive others by mimicking people.

    Strengths:
    - Can fully mimic an individual, including voice, with a variety of races.
    - Does not rely on power input when transformed, only when transforming.
    - Is able to store up to 10,000 different models of people to mimic.
    - Takes only 3 seconds to change forms.
    - Can perform flashscans to mimic someone on the spot, though is lacking in a lot of detail.
    - Also contains .apate files of environmental backgrounds, allowing the suit to enter a camouflaged state such as that of an octopus.

    Weaknesses:
    - Scans require extended periods of recording and data collection; 20 pictures of the person at all angles and 100 words with a variety of inflections will suffice, though more will never hurt. This means you must RP taking pictures and such. If the mimicked person is of some renown, pictures and audio could be found on the Nexus.
    - Armor and clothing is not mimicked, as the hardlight projector cannot project more than head accessories and hair. Well versed spies often create replicas of other people's clothings and armor.
    -
The APATE suit is extremely difficult to repair, requiring great expertise on electronics and nanomaterials. Repair typically takes 2 OOC days when sent to AkCorp repair services ((Disregard of the penalty will be met with consequences))
    - Cannot replicate the height of another, or any jarring features such as extra limbs and such.
    - Will not revert forms during an EMP attack, but will be unable to change forms. Data may be damaged, unless stored in another system such as a cloud.
    - Cells will break and revert back to their disabled form upon any attacks.
    - Will not assist in making the personality of the wearer convincing.
    - High-technology that is expensive, costing 20,000 Osis per model that must be custom fitted.

How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?:
Provides another method for stealth roleplay using disguise.

Attainability: Semi-Closed - APATE Mk. III Changeling Suits must be purchased ICly from AkCorp.
(modifying the suit voids the warranty)
