Name: Insight, The Street, Communion, The Know, Third Eye

Description: Insight can be found in a number of different styled containers throughout the Fringe, from syringes to mystical decanters with a knife-like needle. Though regardless of its vessel, its appearance stays the same; a glowing lilac liquid that’s extremely reflective and constantly letting off a deep purple steam.[IMG]
    By Dariya Demchenko

    Abilities:

After consumption, the subject of Insight becomes 'in tune' with the unconscious of a given area or group (dependent on the catalyst used). While in this state, they are prone to remembering snippets of memories within this collective threshold.- Effortlessly recalling the way to a bakery they had never once been in, through an unfamiliar city, for example. These memories are just as often irrelevant to any goal the subject is trying to do as they are useful.

    Limitations:

Sensory overload is VERY likely when you take Insight.

Rarely, consumers will develop Cuil Cancer.

Flux Catalysts used in Insight must have come in contact with large amounts of people. This means common objects in a given area that have been touched by dozens if not hundreds of individuals.

    Conditional Limitations:

Any object that contains a Flux Insulator cannot be used as a Flux Catalyst.

Occasionally after taking the drug, users will be compelled to go to a location or perform certain acts.

If Insight is consumed without the proper catalyst being used, it will send the user into a coma for two weeks. At the end of which, they will awaken. Often with knowledge or a compulsion they didn’t want.

Objects that were Flux Catalysts but were left untouched for an extended period cannot be used in Insight.

Will sometimes drive you literally insane from the mercury in the Mirror Paint.

    How does it work:

Insight's core ability is triggered by the effects of Star Sugar, Mana, Mirror Paint, and a Flux Catalyst together. A Flux Catalyst, in this case, is used to refer to an item that has come into contact with a large amount of people and has gathered Flux traces due to the Law of Contagion, things like doorknobs in a public place, a public statue, the grave of someone famous, and so on. Doing this allows for one to tap into the greater unconsciousness of said group for a limited time using Neuroinvasive abilities temporarily gifted by the drug.

Other ingredients are added to taste; Common among the many different recipes are ibuprofen, miasma, bustling cave fungus, and cough syrup. These only have marginal effects on the drug's actual effect, primarily in taste and color.

    Flavor text:

Insight was made by accident one night by a group of occult practitioners on Earth shortly before its destruction by the Ruin. Once they realized what they had made, they quickly grew excited- and, less sane than before. The recipe was soon leaked onto various Nexus forums related to mysticism, spirits, magic and occultism- tens of thousands soon indulging in the drug and communicating with the subconscious of the cities they lived in, and often obeying the wills of them as well. And rarely, ever so rarely, the wills of other beings…

Giorno suddenly feels the rain on the pavement, the trash rolling across the sidewalk. He can feel the rodents scampering throughout the sewers, the families coming together at the end of the day, unaware of the virus beneath their skin. He could feel the blood soaking into the dirt below the murder victim, the Remnant who shot them digging through their wallet for the few measly pixels they had. The city cries out in horror and ecstasy, the beast beneath stirring.

Lesslyn shivered at the unpleasant sensations now crawling across her flesh. The maggots burrowing beneath. The blood seeping from her pores. What was worse she would quickly realize, was the feeling of emotion that was pressed upon her. The joy from a mother holding her newborn. The utter sadness of a nearby funeral. The pure loathing of the man hunting a nearby shifter, plasma injector in hand. This world has more life than you ever will.

Charlie snuggled further into her blankets, shutting her eyes tight. She only wanted to try something new, but now… Now she felt Blair’s heartbeat from across the room, steadily beating away in her chest as she made them tea. She felt the heat from the bodies of the rave down in the basement below the building, in one of the clubs she helped manage. She could smell the vomit of a woman who had drunk too much alcohol. She could even taste the blood of the mercenary who had tried to kill her love, pooling on the floor in the cell one floor down. THEY ARE VERMIN INFESTING YOUR TERRITORY, HUNT THEM AND FEAST UNTIL YOUR BELLY BURSTS.

Pending. You need to explain how the drug works under the "how it works" section. The text that's currently there is better suited for the description section.

This answers a "what" question, not a "how." How does it allow you to tap into a collective unconscious? Be specific.
Are we looking at a metapharmaceutical that gives you temporary neuroinvasive abilities, or what? What species are eligible for being "tapped into" and why?

Also, what is the range of the effects? Can you tap into the collective unconsciousness of a planet if you're in a different solar system? Pending.

I also have some thoughts on catalysts:

    - The significance of objects come from our memories related to those objects, not the objects themselves. For example, if a family heirloom is significant to me, it's because I have a memory of being told by a family member why the heirloom is important, not because the heirloom is chemically unique or something. So, what is and isn't a good catalyst should probably be based in memory.
    - This means that both the drug user and the target population should have memories related to the catalyst in order for it to work. The user should know why the catalyst is significant, and the population should too.
    - So, if someone takes a scraping from an important statue, and then gives it to you without telling you what it's from, you shouldn't be able to use it as a catalyst.
    - This also means that the catalyst should also be broadly known to most people in the area– otherwise, how could it be significant to them? So maybe a family heirloom wouldn't be a great idea unless you only wanted to tap into your family

    Also some fun suggestions:

    - Maybe catalyst strength can vary, and depends on how significant the object is. Ex. Mael Radec's cremated ashes are much more potent for the Haven people than some concrete scraped off the side of a frequented capital district building
    - You "get more" from people the more significant the catalyst is to them. So Lesslyn's still-warm bird blood would get you more of Lesslyn and Catia's unconscious minds than the average Havenite's
    - Catalysts work best when the drug user gathers it themselves, or is at least there to see it gathered

The Flux Catalyst is based off Law of Contagion, thus it is more affected by the flux of the many people input into the item then the memories about it you know! Every species that can produce flux can be tapped into. There is no range, but the insight granted is less specific and happens less often the further away you are.

Though I really do like your suggestions! All of those would probably work easier- or perhaps you'd need less of that than another catalyst do to its importance.

This sounds like it temporarily instills a person with a neuroinvasive ability that works off the law of contagion, then!
There are complications that using the law of contagion introduces:
    - Things with salt in them can’t be catalysts.
    - Things that have been untouched for a long time can’t be used, because the flux has decayed.
    - Law of contagion only works off physical touch. So good catalysts wouldn’t be significant— they’d be filthy. They need to have been touched by people in the city as much as physically possible in order to get that flux. We’re talking doorknobs, sidewalk concrete, dirt from public parks, physical currency, sewage (ew), piles of bloodsucking insects, statues that people touch for good luck, etc. Mael Radec’s ashes would actually be pretty useless. Maybe samples from his gravesite would be, though.

I would happily be willing to edit the first and second as conditional limitations and the last as a hard limitation!

Mention the law of contagion part in the "how it works" section and we are good! This is so anybody who wants to know how the app works doesn't have to look through our grading conversation.
Maybe also replace "salt" with "flux insulator", since salt is just one of many flux insulators
Once that's done, it will be a first pass from me!

After some talking and a look through it, I think it's good.
    Second pass.
