Name of Aug/Tech: Stardust Collection Net, 'The Net' Description: A Stardust Net is a huge, thin sheet that is typically mounted onto a ship in either a ring or as a circle at the nose; it features thousands of small wires of flexible graphene twisted in a helix that extend outwards, some nets spanning for dozens of meters and some to several kilometers; for stability, horizontal wires also connect with the vertical ones. Connecting each wire is a huge sheet of a substance similar to aerogel, known colloquially by its creator as the 'dust pan'. At the center of a Stardust Net is a strong magnetic field generator. Also at the center is a motor that allows the net to be folded and stored. History of Aug/Tech: Several designs of the net have actually dated back thousands of years, but have ultimately been abandoned due to the necessity of the high technology that Novakids get bored of. The actual design for a working net was created and put to use over 600 years ago by a Nova who lives today, Old Man Fulminate, who used the net to distill stardust and quickly become wealthy from the profits he made. Other travelling Novas began to replicate this design, though less grand than the net the original creator posesses. How does it work?: As the starship travels through space (typically a nebula), the giant net gradually collects the very spacious gas, dust, and other molecules that float freely; the net eventually, after hours or even days of continious, high-speed travel, becomes densely packed with stardust. The magnetic field is then activated, sending a current through the helical graphene; the helical structure of the middle wires is done so that the magnetic field cancels itself out as the electricity travels, so that the magnetism does not hamper the device. The coiled graphene at the end of the net then, emits a positively charged force that repels the particles inwards towards the center of the net. At the center, the stardust is compressed into a small amount depending on the amount collected; on very high-end setups, the collected stardust goes into a separator where the substances composing it are able to be separated from each other into diferent mixtures; at this point in the stage, the stardust is able to be brewed in a huge variety of different methods and different mixtures. Either way, this invention is what allowed Fulminate to make his vast fortune, brewing and selling his exotic mixes; in some certain distillations, the effects are radical, sometimes producing starshine that even glows or resembles a starry nebula. The way Fulminate mixes such particular beverage is a trade secret to him, though involves shocking a specific mixture so that it creates several different bioluminescent compounds that glow brilliantly when exposed to light. These tend to also taste amazing, even to organics. Even with a large net, however, the yield is not great due to the density of nebular gas. However, the exotic tastes and appearance of these drinks give them a high demand that compensates for this. Intended use: Collecting stardust over several millions of kilometers to brew into awesome drinks. Strengths: - Allows collection of vasts amount of stardust that is particulary tasty and exotic to Novakids. - Brings quite the profit for those that utilize it well, and has the funds to do so. - Yields stardust that can be brewed in so many different ways. Weaknesses: - Expensive. Most are not as large as Fulminate's, which he proudly owns as the Fringe's largest net, spanning at a massive 20 kilometers in diameter.
