In the process of firing, the battery completely drains itself over the course of only a second or two, and the front most lenses cannot withstand the intensity of the laser for more than a second and thus melts through them which leads to the power of the laser to taper off near the end of its firing period. In the process it also destroys the source, meaning that not only does the battery need recharging, the front lenses and the laser source require replacing. Another drawback of the Type 4 is that the laser itself superheats the air around the front of the weapon, enough so that the operator is required to wear protective equipment to operate it without receiving minor burns. =Flavor text= First created by the military manufacturer Hypnose Group, the Type 4 Laser or Shoulder-Mounted Anti-Tank Laser (SMATL), was made because of a need for infantry to reliably disable armored targets.
