Name: Phase Drives, Hyperspatial Shift Drive Description: Phase Drives are medium to large sized pieces of high technology used by the Visitant and the Firstborn that can be hooked up to a ship's main power source and attached to some object. When activated, the attached object will phase from Hyperspace into the same area in Realspace, as well as vice-versa. The Visitant use Phase Drives to traverse materials and Visi between Realspace and Hyperspace. Phase drives can also be made to project the phase field only around an object, phasing it instead of the drive itself, or around an area, phasing a group of objects. (Above: A ship's phase drive.) When an object phases, it appears to quickly "materialize" in a burst of light, accompanied by a uniform, almost spherical burst of tachyons depending on the size of the object phasing, allowing the phase to be detected by radars. Abilities: Phases an object into Realspace, with higher masses requiring much larger amounts of energy. A higher ECF (Environmental Cuil Factor) decreases the energy required to phase. Limitations: Can only phase in areas with an ECF higher than 6‽ Requires more energy the larger mass the object is. Phases are detected by tachyonic radars. How does it work: A Phase Drive phases objects between the dimensions by projecting a high-power negative energy field around it, allowing it to be shunted into the other dimension at the same coordinate. Complicated mathematics similar to those used for warp calculations are used to determine at which point in realspace to phase to. Flavor text: The Phase Drive was invented 50 years ago by the Visi zeta TACHYON.101958.ζ, a brilliant scientist that led a research channel by Subspace Anomaly 18a, researching realspace. The device was a breakthrough for Visitant technology, allowing them to enter realspace in order to escape the corruption that began appearing shortly after the Phase Drive's invention.
