It's projected by a small, wrist mounted device, as small as a watch. The field does not surround the wearer, think of it like this, except the projector is on the person. (Credit to Tribes: Ascend) History of Aug/Tech: This concept was the spawn of several vague blueprints and sketches found in the abandoned ship that was Pulsar's. It was a vague design of a projected field of some sort, and attempts to replicate it resulted in the distortion field. Hey, if it works. How does it work?: It's basically a cloaking field stretched out into a wide square field. No improvement to the light refracting was made, hence distortion rather than light passing around an area. Intended use: To give the offending attacker a harder time getting an accurate, damaging shot. Strengths: - I'm sure the Description, HDIW, and Intended Use sections explain a lot already. - Less-Than-Lethal - The image distorts more the further a person/object is away from the field. - Distortion field bends lasers elsewhere - Distortion field unfocuses lasers into flashlight beams if hitting an area of high distortion. - When a person steps into the field, it's a little like being microwaved where the field touches the skin. (SKIN.) Active Denial field. (Note that offscreen strengths are cut out) Weaknesses: - Less-Than-Lethal - "Distortion field" is probably just a fancy name. People can walk right through it no problem. - Field works both ways, though targeting systems will be able to work around it if it has the right configuration and link to the projector. - Works on chance. No guarantees on avoidance. - Works on chance. No guarantees on laser nullification. - When a person walks through the field, the field weakens and has to reform which takes about 4 full seconds. (Note that offscreen weaknesses are cut out) How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?: I kind of want to introduce dice rolling into CRP. (Sort of like XCOM's chance system, I guess. It's been influencing me a lot lately. Not saying that HellScorn was inspired by HellWeave, because I had no idea HellWeave existed in XCOM2.) Anyway, I believe dice rolls will benefit the RP, because then people will quit arguing on "YOUCAN'THITTHATSHOT" when there's clearly a possibility, because clearly lucky shots are also a defining factor in solid hits. The only problem is having a trusted guy do the rolling for them. Chances are, getting a random person unaffiliated with the combatants is the solution.
