You can imagine superconducting coils within the hilt emitter that give the correct shape to the magnetic bottle. This would explain why the blade shape is cylindrical and symmetric. The whole thing would be very efficient too, and once the field is erected little power is needed to maintain it. Besides, a very small amount of gas could be allowed to undergo fusion, powering the device in accordance to E=mc2. Different gas at different temperatures would account for the varying colors just like Stellar Spectra. What is its intended use?: Plasmablades - Weaponry for close range fighting in wars and other situations, for fire-fighters to free people trapped under rubble and the especially militarized ones to be replacements for Bowie Knives, except much more deadly and far more practical. Strengths - Plasmablades - Can cut through things quite quickly, power armor and mechs would take more than one hit to cut through - Is self-sustaining, so no need for recharge - Can disable unarmed targets near instantly - Can kill lightly armored targets near instantly - Can deflect Plasma weaponry and Other Plasma Blades Weaknesses - Plasmablades - Another Plasmablade will be useless against well.. another Plasma blade - Requires time to ignite, about 10 seconds - Shooting the hilt can make the Gas blow up in the wielders face - Users in heavy armor will require more time to break through - Doesent work in Water, Nor space - Can be knocked out of the hand quite easily Attainability: Open Tags: Military, Industrial What benefits does this bring to roleplay: A New weapon to face off against at close range.
