    Name: Photonic Hard-Light

Description: A projector, it can be of varying designs and sizes, with the power source usually inside of it for handheld models, or wired into a larger source for larger projections. The Hard-Light itself can be of varying colors, it glows slightly, and when set to be in a non-opaque mode, it appears to be slightly like a semi-transparent glass.

How does it work?: At its base, the projector is a technology which keeps the hard-light projection enabled by supporting the construct's stability during projection. The projector itself, when activated, releases a short burst of photons which are "frozen” through the application of several fields around it. After this, a release of high-energy subatomic particles such as gravitons and the application of fields such as the Higgs Field, which give the projection the properties of mass. These settings are fine tuned and tweaked so that it can mimic whatever needs be through density, surface tension, and in very high-end projectors, even the heat and opacity.

Flavor Text: The first Hard-Light projectors were designed by the Apex due to their many possible uses, ranging from weaponry to house furniture. Such a wide use allowed for the distribution of a technology that would keep civilians generally equal in their material wealth, as no one could claim higher social standing through possessions of better quality or branding. Militaristically, it became an ingenious form of weaponry, with Civilian Police being able to make sure weaponry couldn't be shared, and easily disabled if it got into the wrong hands.

    Abilities:
    • Extremely versatile, can be applied to many things depending on the needs of the person
    • In medical uses, photonic hard-light remains sterilized at all times
    • When charged, it can be extremely strong, with mobile projections able to hold the strength of durasteel, and large scale projections being exponentially stronger than even this, making hard-light's greatest use in applications where it can be given a dedicated, massive power supply that is very unlikely to experience periods of inactivity
    Limitations:
    • It functions off of an inverse square law similar to gravity, where doubling the distance of the projector from the construct makes the construct 1/4th as powerful, meaning that large constructs or constructs that are meant to be a distance from their projector anchor require massive amounts of power, and large projector, basically making it impossible for these large scale ones to be mobile, requiring them to be grounded into a larger power source, such as those of a building or a ship
    • Constructs are given via the programming of the projector, and re-coding them is an arduous process, requiring a person to be trained in said profession to be able to do so
    • When a construct is broken, it has a habit of shattering as a whole, with the broken pieces quickly fading into nothing but brief flashes of light
    • Projectors that aren't able to modify the heat of the construct generally aren't safe for use where a person interacts with the construct physically, due to high surface heat
    • If the projector is damaged, the construct will become exponentially weaker in accordance with the inverse square law, generally becoming more and more massless until it is little more than a hologram you can sort of feel resistance against when touching.
    • Loss of power on the projector causes the breakdown of the construct within seconds
    • Constructs such as bullets, large blades, and other lethal weapons are generally inefficient due to the amount of input power for these larger projections being too much for the smaller scale, portable projectors.
