Original by xxscorps. Name of technology or augmentation: Personal Computerized Assistant Description: A sentient computer module, configurable for many things, similar to a S.A.I.L when put in a ship, Usually comes in a solid durasteel box. How does it work: The module acts much like computers of the 21st century, with the attachment slots you can add: Disk drives, Memory, Storage drives, anything computerised. Meant to be flexible, it can be used in any situation, be it a companion in any frame (Biped, Tracked vehicle, intergalactic spaceship, you name it), AI for your tank, AI for your power-armour, anything you can think of. Configurable between combat modes, whether it has full sentience, if it is for military uses or not, if its just a simple moving computer. Like a computer, you can put disks in it (Providing you have the attachment), access the nexus (If thats what you wish to do) Record things via voice (Maybe you could have one following you around so that you can record information whenever?) It needs a power source depending on the features and attachments, It does not have an internal supply nor does it have batteries, again, like a computer. What is it's intended use: Companion. Combat AI. Ship navigation assistance. Nexus browser. Personal computer. Prehaps all of those. Strengths: Fits many roles Highly configurable Many attachment options. Lifelike AI, configurable personality Effective Combat targeting and navigation system. Quite small (Slightly smaller than someones head, without attachments) Easy configuration means it would be easy to create entirely new hardware for it. Weaknesses: No onboard power unit. No onboard batteries No EMP protection at standard. EMP is likely to wipe everything (Even its memories) Each attachment takes up power, same with added features. Pretty fragile at standard, hitting it would probably damage something inside. Each new attachment generates heat (Unless its something like a camera), as it should. Remember extra cooling. The full AI would require quite a bit of power (Think.. 3000 Watts.) and at least one extra storage unit (About 1 Terabyte Min, and thats without much memory either.) Does not run out of the box, needs configuring first into what it needs to do. (Though people could sell units like people sell computers that run an OS) Obtaining! as it is so similar to present day computers, obtaining will be similar. The Individual parts can be bought from the nexus : PerComAs core, and the main parts such as monitors, graphics drivers, etc. Or Pre-built ones can be aquired from stores. (E.G ScorpTec plans to sell these) Manufacturing of parts can be similar to real world. Various manufacturers can make their own designs and sell them. However base blueprints for the parts, for compatibility, are available on the Nexus Tags: [Civilian] How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay? Universal futuristic computer to replace those desktop computers of present year, more realistic to sci-fi.
