Name: Ophanim Description: Ophanim are a bizarre, space-faring group of creatures, assumed to originate from Hyperspace. Rings of a tough, fleshy material with eyes dotting the outer part of the ring. 'Wing' like features occasionally protrude from the sides of the Ophanim, usually small compared to the body size of the Ophanim. ( A chain of multiple Ophanim, as depicted by a Glitch artist. ) Behavior: Ophanim have been observed to simply drift throughout space, usually in no particular direction. When around others of their kin, Ophanim are known to 'fuse' together, forming chains varying from 5 to 6 Ophanim, or all the way up to hundreds. If a chain is large enough, the group of Ophanim may begin orbiting a celestial body with some amount of Mana Dust surrounding it. Some scientists guess that Ophanim feed off said Mana. Tamability: For the most part, untamable. Some more eccentric folk have managed to capture small Ophanim, and being too docile to really fight back, they often simply follow after the person that snatched them up from space, although its not unheard of for an Ophanim to simply wander away from said captors. Where is it found?: Near Hyperlanes, feeding off excess mana dust, along with other areas within space containing large amounts of Mana. Rarity: Ophanim are uncommon, although Spacer's are likely to spot one, or a cluster of them, if they travel for long enough. Diet/Method of gaining nutrients and energy: Ophanim feed off of mana from hyperlanes and other hyperspace entrances. When observed, it's noted that they consume via coming in contact with the mana, before it is slowly absorbed by their 'skin'. Products?: Nice to look at. Other than that, none. Reproduction: Ophanim propagate in an odd way. After consuming a large amount of mana in one sitting, the Ophanim 'splits' in half, each chunk of the ring eventually growing back into a full Ophanim, similar to the reproduction of a starfish. Each chunk finishes growing back in about 4 weeks, depending on the size of the Ophanim that split. Size: The size of an Ophanim varies greatly. Most have an average circumference of 10 meters, although specimens as small as 16 centimeter circumferences have been spotted when domesticated and not fed for a great amount of time. The largest one spotted thus far had a circumference of 50 meters. Weight: With a circumfrence of 10 meters, an ophanim weighs 400 pounds. Lifespan: Ophanim are known to live for upwards of hundreds of years, practically immortal if they have a reliable source of mana. Ophanim are only known to die due to starvation or starships crashing into them. Abilities: - Able to survive in the vacuum of space - Assumed to be able to enter hyperspace to travel great distances at once - Able to 'hover' when on a planet with gravity, usually drifting rather aimlessly when effected by gravity, however. Flaws: - Not able to function well when effected by gravity, drifting aimlessly when on planets, barely having semblance of control. - Must have a consistent source of mana to be able to keep their magnificent sizes, eventually starving if they don't have enough mana for them to subsist on. - Unable to defend themselves from attackers, occasionally drifting directly into the path of starships. Other: Some more eccentric individuals take smaller examples of the creatures as pets, even having them drift over their head to look somewhat like a halo, Ironic due to the creatures biblical naming scheme.
