Name: Mimics - Ludicro continens Description: A simple box, crate, chest, or other storage device (wild mimics can be found in anything hollow that they can fit into), often designed to appear as though it contains some form of wealth or treasure inside of it. When awakened, however, it appears as an opened box/crate/chest/etc with eyes inside and a large, chitinous tongue sharpened to a point at its tip, capable of growing 3 to 4 feet long. Small limbs extend from the base of the mimic, allowing it to scuttle and hop after whomever has had the misfortune of stumbling upon it. Sharp teeth extend from the lid and rim of the now-transformed mimic. Mimics were a species of fleshy creatures which took refuge in hollow rocks and trees, soon after being discovered by the Gravelords of the Undercrypt, Mimics were genetically augmented to service as theft-protection for loot chambers, giving them thick chitin plating that grows from their tongue, limbs, and around their eyes. Behavior: Mimics sit in wait until a careless explorer attempts to open them, at which point they spring open, leaping at the ill-fated adventurer and attacking them with their sharpened tongue, clawed limbs, and sharp teeth. They will go back to sitting in wait once the explorer has either been killed and devoured or successfully flees the Mimic. Tamability: Generally impossible to tame, but Mimics can have biometrics installed so that they don't attack an owner that is nearby, controlling their mental state through implants. Where is it found?: In various loot chambers scattered around the Undercrypt, some have been placed out in the middle of the Undercrypt by more sadistic people who simply revel in the idea of people being jumped by a Mimic, however, Mimics have been found on the Black Market in Purgatory, sold by adventurers who have captured them during their excursions into the Undercrypt, leading to small populations appearing in some seedy locations, however rare. ((Please try to RP out obtaining a Mimic either from the Undercrypt or a black market on Purgatory, the point of the Undercrypt is to offer RP, and as such, it is discouraged that people ass-pull tech/beasts from it)). Rarity: Uncommon, but become exceedingly more common near areas where lots of treasure are stored in the Undercrypt, placed by those who own such treasure. Diet/Method of gaining nutrients and energy: They are a strictly carnivorous species, violently hunting anything they can devour. Products?: Their chitin plates can be salvaged when killed. Some have a piddling amount of treasure inside of them or around them to increase the chances someone will take the bait, but this is often fake. A mimic can be eaten, but they have been described to taste like burnt tire and rotten milk. Reproduction: Asexual, when a Mimic gorges on enough food, they can regurgitate a pupal pod of fleshy material that grows into another Mimic. A young mimic doesn't have their chitin plating yet, so they aren't as powerful as an older Mimic, but after a few months their chitin starts to grow in. Adolescent Mimic's first priority is finding a container to reside in. Before their genetic augmentation, Mimics would have to find a new container as they outgrew their old ones, much like a hermit crab, but after their augmentation, they fuse to their container, chitin carapace plates replicating pieces that they have to remove over time. Size: Ranges, can be anywhere from .5 meters to 2 meters in length. Weight: Ranges, 10-80lbs Lifespan: Can live around 75-120 years, slightly longer if well fed and out of harm. Abilities: -Mimicry, as in their namesake, they are designed to appear like harmless chests or crates until interacted with, at which point they attack. -Chitinous tongue with a sharp point, can gore and slash prey, larger mimics can even use their tongues to constrict and crush prey. -Sharpened teeth can crush and gore those who are trapped in its grip -Claws can scratch and cut Flaws: -Material for the chest may be flammable in some cases, leaving them open to incendiary attacks -Plasma tends to burn through them and cause damage, especially to their fleshy portions -Aren't that great at protecting against large ballistics outside of thick metal chest mimics -Their limbs can only propel them forward around 8mph, making it possible to outrun them
