KRITTEN Description: Small crustaceans that are the main food source for most of the monstrous creatures and fish that live in the Larissian Oceans of Zecyria, the Kritten stick in schools of hundreds of thousands as they traverse the oceans in search of food from the seafloor, the mouths of rivers and in some lakes. Most commonly resembling a shrimp from Earth, the Kritten are a rich source of food and protein, making them the ideal target for the larger predators of the oceans. Consisting of a head and thorax and a long and narrow abdomen with countless legs for crawling along the seafloor, the exterior of the Kritten is covered in a tough shell that prevents it from being torn apart by schools of smaller fish but provides no relief from the monsters within the real deep. The Kritten have two compact eyes that are used to provide the creature panoramic vision, allowing them to spot predators from all directions. The long antennae help the Kritten orient itself with regard to its immediate surroundings, while the short antennae help assess the suitability of prey. Propulsion jets under the eyes of the creature allow it to quickly glide through the ocean. Behavior: Timid. Will flee from anything larger than its current size. Prefer to congregate in massive schools near the shore or on the sea floor. Tamability: Cannot be tamed. Where is it found?: Any ocean on the planet of Zecyrion. Rarity: Very Common. Diet: Parasites, bacteria, necrotic tissue, algae and smaller prey. Products: Seafood. Reproduction: The female stores the sperm of the male and will use it when the numbers of the school begin to dwindle. Size: 1mm – 30cm. Weight: 1 – 2 kilos. Lifespan: 1 - 7 years. Abilities: Can propel themselves through the water with propulsion jets. Thick rear carapace to defend the soft abdomen against some attacks. Flaws: Unable to defend themselves against predators.
