Originally posted by Sovjet Burr Name of Aug/Tech: Irkutsk APS Description: A Steel angled box with spike radar dish on top. History of Aug/Tech: First prototype (Codenamed DROZD) were created in 1978, letter continued in SZTORA, ARENA, and AFGANIT series. Irkutsk is a continuation of Afganit hard-kill system but also does use SZTORA soft-kill systems. It's used to protect small vehicles, UAVs and infantry groups. How does it work?: Hard kill system - Irkutsk uses hi-speed Doppler radar system to locate incoming very dangerous/slow moving projectiles ( artillery shells, mortar shells, missiles, rockets, nets) and shoot them down using Inf Version - Pin-Point J-23 Laser system to eliminate hi-caliber projectiles fuses and igniters (especially missiles artillery shells, mortar shells), cut apart Nets, and remotely detonate low caliber rockets and missiles at safe distance. This system got limited firepower being 3.78 RPM, can only operate if deployed in standing position. This system only attacks objects at speed 60m/s - 1700m/s and only those above 20mm. Vehicle Version - a Nano Slugs wave, detonating 40mm Projectile and spreading ~7000 Hi-Energy Nano Slugs towards the target at distance 25m of bigger, detonating the round in safe distance from the vehicle. Especially effective in HEAT and APFSDS projectiles. This method is way more effective, as it can stop whole swarms from same direction. sadly, this can be very lethal to friendly infantry, as systems ignores casualties in target area. Soft kill system - Irkutsk includes advanced electro-optical active protection system, designed to disrupt the laser target designation and rangefinders of incoming anti-tank guided missiles and other remotely controlled projectiles, as well as Drone Communication, Remotely detonated IEDs, Radio communication (if configured to do so).His effective range is ranging from 80m in urban areas, to 1400m on Desert Area. Irkutsk-P - Light version, used to be carry by infantry. It's powered by a big replaceable Zinc–air battery. This battery is capable of powering ~36 shots of J-23 Pin-Point laser system, or powering 62Ghz Doppler radar and ECM system for 72 minutes. This version is folding to a backpack sized case, and have to be deployed to operate ( the micro-laser turret and Doppler radar dish have to be pulled out, the whole construction have to be grounded. ) This version weighs 19kg, and is rated I class of bulletproof protection (.22 LR;.380 ACP), and any successful penetration will A) - break it , B) If hit in laser kompensator, make it explode with energy of ~60g of TNT Irkutsk-B Is a vehicle mounted, heavy duty version of Irkutsk APS. powered by a vehicle power supply, Its mounted into a turret, and on first glance it's launchers looks like IR smoke launchers. This system is capable of shooting down 14 independent Waves of projectiles . ( Everything in 20 degree angle). This system will operate until the power supply is applied. Intended use: Defense against Rockets, Hi-Caliber Projectiles, Explosives and tazer nets. Strengths: Capable of shooting down Missile and rockets, slow moving nets, itd. Capable of interfering with communication Capable of sabotaging enemy drones and other remotely controlled devices Weaknesses: Does Not allow friendly communication in area or remotely controlled drones Strong heat trail Can be destroyed by EMP while not deployed (Irkutsk-P) If shot (Irkutsk-P) with any weapon, it guarantees it's mis-function Does Not protect from small arms fire (Irkutsk-P) can be destroyed by simply hitting/kicking it while deployed If unlucky it can kill/hurt operators. Potentially explosive. (Irkutsk-P) How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?: Few more interesting things, mostly deleting some insta-kill weapons (if deployed) Attainability: [Open] (Previously closed) Tags: [Military]
