Name of Aug/Tech: Invisible Blades Description: An invisible blade appears as completely invisible, save for the very few seconds after it is activated in which the air appears to shimmer in a very dim, blue glow. When deactivated, it appears as several thousand extremely small cells similar to that of a HERMES Cloaking Suit, bearing a color depending on the construction of the cells. Typically, an invisible blade will be installed onto swords, but have found their way onto other weaponry such as axes. A transparent coating of a high-tech polymer is also coated in the blade to protect the cells, though is damaged by plasma and direct perpendicular attacks with a vibroblade. History of Aug/Tech: The first invisible sword was constructed by a genius who had a sizable amount of resources to work with; he created the blade from inspiration of, as quoted, "some really fucking cool anime swords". Though initially, his presentation to the corporation was poor at best and his design was rejected. Instead, he decided to post the blueprints onto a Nexus image-board, and after people realized its capabilities, it began to see production around the Fringe, especially by technology corporation AkCorp. How does it work?: Invisible blades work by layering thousands of extremely small, hydrophobic nanosensor cells onto the desired blade of any material, extremely thin nets of graphene wiring running to the weapon's main processor; like typical cloaking devices, the invisible blade uses smart imagery to cloak itself as invisible, appearing as a faint blue shimmer three seconds after its activation and then resolving as invisible times after. The actual edge of the blade is typically a standard sharpened blade, a monoatomic edge, or a vibrating edge; the very edge of the blade is not cloaked, revealing the extremely thin line of light visible if the enemy's gaze is locked straight at it. Due to the nature of the cutting edge and the invisible blade, plasma and other energy weapons are usually not used as they completely negate the purpose of the invisible blade by glowing, unless such an effect of just a glowing edge is desired. The blade's invisibility cells, being hydrophobic, will not soak in any blood that should spill upon it, though the blade will be revealed by blood running down the blade that is not yet off. In addition, the blade will shimmer faint blue again as it strikes down onto a surface such as a body, the light flow interrupted drastically and forcing the cells to reconfigure as the blade is lifted. The same occurs during a parry or a block against a shield. An EMP attack made against the blade will disable it for a time depending on the severity, typically twelve seconds until the computer can reconfigure itself. An extremely powerful EMP, or multiple successive EMPs, will damage the cells and rendering the blade visible. The invisible blade is desired as a weapon because of the fact that it is invisible; even skilled fighters will have difficulty dodging or parrying anything that they cannot see, and expert fighters are forced to simply go off of the movement of their opponent's arms to determine where they should parry, often messing up the angle. While regarded as perhaps dishonorable by many knights, some find it simply swell to strike their opponents with something they cannot see. Intended use: Fighting with invisible blades. Strengths: - Invisibility makes it difficult to dodge and parry. - Protective polymer protects nanosensor cells. Weaknesses: - Will shimmer three seconds after activation, and during any hits. - Damaged by EMPs. - Rendered useless with energy edgings. - Greater power input than a vibroblade. - Invisibility will cause a very faint blur to appear around the blade. How do you believe this will assist in benefiting roleplay?: Serves as another type of weapon to utilize for the glorious melee CRP we all love. Attainability: Open Tags: [Military]
