Hey! It's me. A handful of y'all probably remember me from several years ago. I've been hopping on to the server *extremely occasionally*, but never really done much more since I stopped playing due to bad connection. I'm considering coming back to the server, but there's a little issue. Y'see, I've been doing mainly discord RP, where I'm the GM, and have control over a whole bunch of characters, and that's what I got used to. It made telling stories significantly easier. But, returning to the server, I'll only have control over a character or two, how do I make stories when I've only got control over one piece? Might have an obvious answer, but I can't figure out a good way to do it. How do I make character arcs, or long plots? PS: what happened to the gallery can we bring it back please
The best thing to do is to avoid trying to create a long plot entirely- on your own, at the very least. Since you don’t have control over every character, making long arcs are very difficult unless you’re hosting an event. Instead, make your character a catalyst for interesting interactions and see where it leads them- even if an arc doesn’t form, interesting situations might still pop up. You could try making a character that needs something specific, physically or emotionally, from the people they interact with, and their “arc” is their journey to obtain that thing. For example, I had a character with low self confidence because she was ugly by her species’s standards, and she ended up overcoming that insecurity when she got engaged to an alien that had different beauty standards.
