Name: Gelatinous Reconstructive Operative Synthetic Substance, or G.R.O.S.S. for short. Description: It is little more than what it says on the tin. It's a synthetic gelatinous substance or a slime as they are more commonly known. The slime can then be controlled through the usage of a control module which manipulates it through magnetic fields. This module can sometimes create more slime if necessary and if it has the right resources to do so. Advantages: It's a slippery goo, and can fit through most spaces and change shape at will. The substance won't "die" until you either remove all of the slime or destroy the module. It is not toxic and made with mostly natural substances! Limitations: The module is often very poorly protected, since the slime is not good at resisting damage. Often times it is just protected against EMPs. The module cannot give the slime much impact strength by, say, a direct hit, leaving it quite weak. The slime needs a lot of water to not dry out. The slime is sensitive to different environments, and will both easily freeze and evaporate. How does it work?: The process is actually really simple. Often times it uses a normal slime as a base and adds certain extras to make it work like it should. The first step is to add a magnetic metal to allow the module to actually interact with the slime. Usually iron is the go to metal, but some others are known to use metals like nickel or cobalt. Once this is done, you're basically finished, however this goo is sometimes used in things like synthetic beings. What is done then is that the core is allowed to create digestive enzymes. This allows the being to consume food in order to generate energy. Often in these beings, they can also consume the materials their slime is made of to be able to create more in case they need to. These digestive enzymes are often produced through the combination of ingested substances, before being stored away inside of a storage capsule in their core. Often times these cores can also cultivate a micro biome of various bacteria, in order to gain all of the nutrients and energy out of consumed foods. This is how it mimics the digestive system of normal organic beings. In more cosmetic cases, certain mixtures can contain ingredients that can do things such as glow, at the cost of extra energy, and to shift colour at will. The slime will often also contain nanobots, sprinkled within. This is to allow it to respond to touch among other senses and letting it act as some sort of basic nervous system. These can also sometimes feature small cameras and therefore act as eyes. Flavour Text: The technology was originally invented by a toy company, that wanted to create a range of moving slime toys. They however forgot to patent the recipe and it was quickly spread. This is why it has such a silly name as it is made to appeal to kids.
