Name: Darkwood Trees (Genus Caecuseruslignum) Description: (Above: A depiction of a Vampyr Mage by a Darkwood tree.) Darkwood Trees are a special genus of trees found exclusively in Erebus and similar areas; they bear a similar appearance to Oak trees and can vary in size from a small sapling to a massive tree to even live inside. They differ from most other plant-life in a few major ways, however: A Darkwood tree has no leaves and its bark is twisted and curved throughout its length, darker in coloration and cold to the touch. Darkwood is a common material in Erebus and is prized for its unique properties of expelling heat from it with its sap which acts as a natural coolant, and fossilized Darkwood can reach near cryogenic temperatures - this cooling sap results in the tree becoming cold to the touch and inside of it, making it extremely resistant to heat and fire as well. Behavior: Plant. Tamability: Plant. Where is it found?: Dark areas like Erebus Rarity: Fairly common Diet/Method of gaining nutrients and energy: Quite eerily, it feeds off of the nutrients found in the ground that result from the many corpses decayed into it.
