    (Above: A standard concussive pistol.)

    Name: Concussive Weaponry, Phasers, Detainers

    Description: A type of weaponry that appears in different forms of firearms such as rifles, pistols, shotguns, et cetera. The weapons typically have a claw-like form at their end and glow faintly like energy weapons do.

    Abilities:
    • Can incapacitate targets non-lethally with a restraining, concussive shock
    • Rather silent, can only be heard from a close distance
    Conditional Abilities (Optional): N/A

    Limitations:
    • Disabled by EMP (but not broken)
    • Unable to truly harm someone by itself
    • Slightly lower capacity than other firearms
    Conditional Limitations (Optional):
    • Sufficient amount of padding can dampen the effects
    How does it work: Concussive weapons work like any other firearm. There is a grip, a trigger, a "magazine” (in this case, a battery), and a pseudo-barrel in form of a claw. The main work is done by a gravitic field projector that spans over the claws which, upon pressing the trigger, draws charge from the battery to create a graviton projectile with a spin which keeps it stable. Shortly afterwards, the projector shuts off and the projectile propels itself straight forward on its own. Once the shot impacts with a surface, it shatters and the gravitons disperse themselves over the target body. On both organic and synthetic lifeforms, this causes a heavy concussive shock capable of rendering them unconscious or at least incapacitated.

    Flavor text: First developed by a Civspace company under a patent, the concussive weaponry became a hit with law enforcement of different factions for non-lethal detainment of criminals. They were a rarity in the Fringe up until the patent ran out and the weaponry became openly available for production.

    Referenced Technologies (Optional): Variable field technology

    Attainability: Open

    Hi @Kappa I'll be grading your app.
    I have a few questions for you.
    How long would it take for someone to regain consciousness or recover from these types of weaponry? Are they capable of causing damage such as bruises, hairline fractures on bone, or damaging android components such as small hydraulics and motors?
    My second question is how compact can these weapons be compared to other rifles, pistols, and so on? Do the tend to be bulky or heavy, or quite compact and lightweight?
    Pending.

    @Khaos

    About the unconsciousness, it would be a minute at the very least but can go upwards on a case by case basis.

    The entire concussive force disperses itself over the body for the effect so depending on where it hits and if the target is wearing protective clothing, it would cause a nasty bruise on the point of impact in the worst case or slightly dented shell for an android. No impairing, lasting damage at all.

    For size, they would be quite compact in their form but a little heavier than conventional firearms.

    Alright @Kappa, That leaves one final question from me.
    Does the effectiveness of the weapons rely on hitting the target center-mass or near the head? Would it be possible for a victim to remain conscious if shot in the leg or arm?

    @Khaos

    That is correct, hitting the head or torso gives the best results. Hitting limbs has a low chance of rendering someone unconscious and usually just incapacitates the area hit and around it.

    @Kappa

    Alright, in that case I'll be giving this application an initial pass!

    Hey, after reading through the application I'm satisfied with how it is and will be giving this an Approval.
