Name: Cloaking Field Generator, Active Camo Device, Somebody’s Problem Field Description: Cloaking Field Generators have no set appearance, but are typically rectangular objects that are strapped to either the torso, back, or hips. Many holographic projectors and sensors are visible across its surface no matter the circumstance, however. Abilities: Active Camouflage: Cloaking Fields render anything they cover nearly invisible to the naked eye. Conditional Abilities: Variable Size: The devices that project the active camouflage can easily be scaled upwards to hide vehicles, buildings, or in extreme cases entire starships. Limitations: Glow: The field generated by the device produces a very, very dim glow. While during the day this has little consequence, during the night or in darker locations a highly perceptive individual may be able to spot an active field when purposefully observing an area. Blur: Cloaking fields generate a visible blur around the individual they’re obscuring, akin to a heat blur. This can allow someone to spot an active field, though this becomes more difficult the greater the distance between an observer and the field. Large enough fields however can be visible from even far distances due to the size of the blur they create. Infrared Susceptibility: Cloaking fields can be bypassed entirely with infrared vision, be it from cameras or biologically. Electro-Magnetic Vulnerability: The cloaking device itself is vulnerable to EMPs, shutting down for three turns when hit by a pulse. Afterwards, it must be manually reactivated. Conditional Limitations: Variable Size: While the cloaking device can be scaled up, it requires exponentially more power the larger it is and the larger the field it generates. This makes mobile use of the device difficult in many cases. How does it work: Cloaking Field Generators operate using many holographic projectors and sensors working in tandem. The sensors acquire information on the area around the device, which then allow the projectors to create a field that edits out the individual being hidden and replaces them with what the area would look like without them present. To allow a user to see, the projectors also create a second field on the interior which shows their surroundings.
