- Calliope Station - . . . Calliope Station is a renowned pirate port occupying space along the northern edge of the Galactic Core. It is currently under the control of Clan Vemiilas, a Thaniik crime family whose claws are sunk into much of the Fringe, as well as small portions of Civilized Space. Under the supervision of their sizable fleet, it has become a hotspot of enforced neutrality in the galactic underground. This fact allows it to be utilized as a meeting ground between some of the largest criminal empires in the Fringe. . . . Despite this apparent moderation, Vemiilas’ guards only really care to enforce themselves onto the larger gangs, who might attempt to step to their might, as well as the residents of the station, who pay a regular tax for their protection. On the interpersonal level, individuals and smaller groups are allowed to operate on the might-makes-right code of conduct that enforces itself across lawless space. . . . The station’s population hosts many useful services for those who can not show their face on the likes of Haven or Olympus. This includes ship repair, medical services, and a steady source of both supplies and crew. However, many of these resources are controlled by other criminal enterprises, seeking to make a profit in the unaligned station. . . . The station’s permanent residents include a large number of Penguins, Grey, Froggs, and Remnants, with almost all other species found in smaller numbers. . . . The history of the station dates back to shortly before the First Galactic War, when it was initially constructed. Its original purpose is unclear, as during the early and hostile years of the war, it was quickly renovated to service warships and defend itself in kind. These renovations worked well for a time, but could not hold up against continued raids performed by Penguin crews, Jovian pirate bands, and Avosi privateers alike. . . . Soon, the residents either abandoned it, or were slaughtered. The marauders were quick to declare it as their territory. Since then, it has changed hands many times, but has never again been under the control of a formal government.
