Caleb Carpenter - not to be confused with Caleb Carpenter - enjoying a quiet morning alone, circa June 3286, standing on the roof of his twin brother's home in the middle of Sanctian woodland.

    General Information
Allegedly hailing from the cloning labs of a remote mothership well-hidden in Fringe territory, Caleb Marcus Carpenter - better known as just Caleb - is (yet another) clone of the AI/metanoid, Caleb Marcus Carpenter. Co-founder and now the sole proprietor of Red & Goldie's Requisitions, Caleb makes a living selling and manufacturing weapons and technology - some even of his own design - while giving aspiring minds a platform upon which they may do the same.

Fitting for a clone of a man born to one family and adopted by another, giving him a total of five siblings and three (living) parents across both, Caleb holds high value in family and companionship. He is the eloped husband of Blake Lucia Carpenter and adoptive father of Lloyd Dell Carpenter; he was also the polyamorous fiancee of the late Robin Flynn, until her death. At 30 years of physical age, he celebrates "his" birthday between the fifteenth and twentieth of April every year, though he doesn't quite remember which of those six days he was born on.

    Physical Appearance
On the outside, Caleb appears to others as a fairly-tall, well-put-together man, standing at roughly six feet and seven inches in height, leaving him usually at least about a head taller than most of his known peers. He has an average complexion, skin color, strikingly blue eyes, and puffy wheat-gold hair that he occasionally has trouble keeping shape or style (or at least out of his face). Small scars sparsely dot his body and face, almost all of them resembling small knife wounds or similar.

Caleb is noted to care greatly about his physical appearance - or, in other words, his health - and takes lengths daily to ensure it remains how it currently is, based on his diet and daily routine. It shows for the most part; despite having a job that's more paperwork than anything else, Caleb's very fit, free of any excess adipose with muscle taking its place. His good physical build is one of the few elements of his past life that he's vowed to hold on to, exercising by routine every day, and it hasn't let him down yet.

Caleb's clothing tends to be simple in individual pieces but complex in how it's all put together. While his outfits are predominantly standard colors - blacks, denim blues, khakis, tans, greys, maroons, olive greens, and so on - the color yellow always manages to find its way into what he wears somewhere, somehow. While rugged, worn clothing like button-up work shirts, cargo pants and overalls are among his favorite articles of clothing, he's more than capable and willing to dress in cleaner clothing for formal events, or lighter, more casual wear when at home. This is best exemplified by his R&G company uniform, which despite being a rather well-tailored suit, is an eye-burning shade of near-solid goldenrod yellow.

Normally invisible to onlookers is a single, rectangular, USB-like port in the back-top of Caleb’s head, flush with his skin except for the port’s actual opening. While this normally can’t be seen under his modest forest of hair, he’ll sometimes go around with something sticking out of the back of his head, ranging from thumb drives to long cables, protruding from said port. This betrays his true identity as not a "pure" human, but rather, a metanoid - an artificial intelligence that inhabits a modestly-augmented, purpose-cloned human body of flesh and blood.

    Personality (Type)
Personality Type: ENFJ-A (or at least, it was).

To an onlooker, getting a bead on what Caleb is like seems simple. On the outside, he tries to be the embodiment of warm, helpful, and empathetic. While he sometimes seems aloof in relation to the situation at hand at times, even obnoxiously so at worst, he's otherwise just a young father with a very helpful and sociable attitude. Not outgoing in a traditional sense, but more comfortable being around people than being alone in most cases, going out of his way to talk to others as long as they seem approachable. If it's for the greater good, Caleb is happy to go so far as to degrade himself for the betterment of his friends, seemingly happy to turn the other cheek and provide as much patience as those around him demand of him.

Of course, though, there's more to him than just that.

Caleb’s happy and content exterior hides a surprising amount of guilt, sadness, and angst. Actually a months-old clone of the real Caleb Carpenter, created with the intent to be an exponentially better-adjusted individual than the original was with no consideration to the environment he'd be placed into and the people he would be interacting with on a daily basis. Caleb seems paranoid about, and takes issue with, many things that your everyday spacer would take for granted, only (sometimes) calming down and accepting them after enough time has passed. His capacity for granting patience is not bottomless; many who have taken advantage of Caleb's seemingly "spineless" demeanor have suddenly found themselves on the receiving end of an absolute avalanche of biting remarks and venomous insults, if not just his palms or fists.

At the cost of regaining an incredible deal of sanity his previous incarnation lacked, with no extra voices in his head to direct him, this "new" Caleb is - ironically - worse adjusted to Fringe life, if only because he's now little more than a regular man (demeanor- and attitude-wise) that lives smack-dab in the middle of lawless space, without the grit and fighting spirit that helped the "old" Caleb cope. The loss of his fiancee Robin has only exasperated these feelings, often bringing his desire to stop getting tread on in direct conflict with his purpose-made directive of not making the same mistakes "he" did, leaving him feeling like an inadequate inheritor of the old Caleb's wife, son and life, especially now that he has to carry his entire company on his shoulders almost-alone.

    Political Ideology
Unlike the last man to hold the name, Caleb's political views are far less radical, more grounded, but less interesting as a consequence. Given his default behavior of being quiet and reserved (unless pushed to the point of snapping, again), he also brings them up less often too. What was once a burning, passionate hatred of transhumanism and all who followed the idea has been reduced to simply a preference against it for more traditional ideals. An all-encompassing disdain for large factions and corporations has been reduced to mere suspicion, until proven otherwise. And so on. This hasn't entirely been for the better, of course, since it's allowed certain groups that the old Caleb was wise (or just coincidentally crazy) enough to avoid or ignore to tread on new Caleb with relative ease.

Perhaps his simplistic views will evolve with more time.

    Backstory

When it came down to Caleb’s past, while not completely silent on the matter, the man was still fairly tight-lipped about the specifics surrounding his origins, something he’s been trying to improve upon by being more open with others. What was known about Caleb’s background, however, came from his own words.

Caleb claimed to’ve been born in a distant sub-colony - one of thirteen - in a part of a larger, near-planet-wide supercolony in civspace, though he never disclosed the name or location of the planet. Despite his otherwise rugged upbringing, his family and home life weren’t the cause of it; indeed, while still somewhat vague about the topic, Caleb often discussed his adoptive parents and siblings with great fondness compared to most other aspects of his home, and according to him, had since started making frequent visits to them after that the event that caused him to flee home had long since passed. One thing Caleb seemed to speak fondly of often is that he would meet his wife-to-be, Blake Lucia Evetion, here during a school-related event here. The two would maintain contact via the local colony internet for some time before losing contact for several years due to them fleeing to the Fringe for their separate reasons.

Why Caleb left, exactly, is something the man only seemed willing to mention in small snippets at a time. The most consistent piece of the story seems to be that he “ran into trouble with the law,” and was forced to steal a ship, weapons, supplies and leave, though he wasn't entirely consistent on what he did - only that he “made some bad people pay,” and was confident that whatever he did was justified. He even mentioned a failed relationship being involved, once or twice.

According to him, he spent the better half of several years roaming the CivSpace-Fringe border worlds, his only goal to create and keep a steady income, having turned to a life of crime and mercenary work to obtain this. While an incredibly profitable trade thanks to his high demand - a status earned by the extreme diversity of his skillset - the lingering remnants of Caleb's innocence would meet their end under this line of work, causing the man to develop violent tendencies and untold traumas until, one day, he suddenly quit.

Over half-a-decade was spent wandering the Fringe of his own volition from then on. Just as he'd hoped, his name and reputation quickly faded into nothingness, leaving him to explore and socialize with relative impunity, contending with only his personal flaws and typical Fringe issues as he went along. His new life wasn't without strife still, but was an improvement over the corruption of his home and the dangers of crime, especially once he finally settled down on a quaint little planet he named Sanctus. Sure, it didn't last - and sure, he moved on and off the planet a lot - but it was something, and he was proud of it.

Caleb's life changed significantly, however, after switching from a monogamous relationship with Blake to a polyamorous one with her and Robin Flynn, another Fringe spacer who he found to have gone through many similar experiences to him and Blake. Unfortunately, Robin brought along untold metaphorical "baggage" with her that would go on to be indirectly harmful to Caleb, including a deep-seated and violent feud with David Ward, a neighbor and long-time "friend" of Caleb's whom he ran and protected Sanctus alongside. After a particularly grueling run-in between the two redheads, Caleb was driven to the point of seeking revenge, and asked for help from the infamous Diana Clivay to accomplish it.

Out of this convoluted (and failed) plan, two clones of Caleb were born - one of them immediately inheriting his body and identity, effectively overwriting him. Possessing a much greater deal of sanity and human decency, at the cost of lots of "spine," this "new Caleb" never bothered to choose a name for himself despite identifying as a totally new individual, and would take up the "old Caleb's" life, family and responsibilities in his stead... only to discover most of it - the people especially - were more than he'd bargained for. Not all, of course, but... most. "Caleb" was not a man of action, but surrounded by people who were...

All of this reached a head when the Robin-Dave feud came to yet another head, this time for the last time; Robin being arrested for attempting to blackmail Dave with information Haven considered classified, she was unceremoniously executed in her cell. The news - even if incomplete in relation to what'd actually happened - shocked and disgusted "new" Caleb, having believed the two had buried the hatchet already. Horrified by this, something's since snapped in him. Being far more short-tempered, with a much more shallow tolerance for being verbally or physically mistreated, new Caleb's once-optimistic outlook of his somewhat violent surroundings has forever changed...

    Changelog:
    -2/28/19: Posted, misc. editing.
    -3/3/19: Added Cassius.
-3/13/19: Edited Rose, Cassius; added Vox, Gary, Box.
    -3/14/19: Edited Hayden; added Phonecia.
-4/9/19: Edited personality and general information; added Frosthand; edited Dave, Vittoria, Cassius, Rose, Selene and Blake.
-5/5/19: Added Lillian and Diana; edited Vittoria, Vox, Galleux, PosiMin, Rose, Hayden, and Blake; updated appearance; removed "minor" characters (those of which he's had either minimal or non-significant interaction) for the sake of streamlining, though they'll be back if they're interacted with more.
-8/21/19: Added Hierro; edited Diana, Vittoria, Hayden, Rose, and Frosthand. Outside of character relations, updated residence location in General Information and went into more detail in Physical Appearance.
-9/21/19: Completely retyped every single relationship entry, and cleaned up the sheet elsewhere. I'll have art to post here soon.
-9/29/19: Artwork by the talented @Pinkbat5 added, along with a character sprite by yours truly. Also, changed the font.
-10/22/19: Added links to all characters who have sheets here on the site. Also made the changelog more visible, because why not?
-11/2/19: Modified a few places in the sheet, reducing corniness and grammatical errors the best I can at 4 in the morning. Also, Rose got a relationship upgrade, so I can't wait to hear the end of that one.

-2/9/20: Edited a few points on the sheet to reveal new/relevant information. Most notably however, the character interactions section has been omitted completely. I was unhappy with it, and plan to find a more natural, "organic" way to describe how Caleb feels about other characters, since this sheet is meant to read like a bio and not a list (which is what that section was).
    -2/29/20: Fixed a few
grammatical errors. Also, HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY to the sheet a day late!!
-11/12/20: Finally overhauled to reflect the slowly-revealed revelation that the Caleb we knew has... changed.
