History Ardaxx was one of two hatchlings born on Angel's Light, a major avian settlement ruled and governed by Stargazer and Kluexian law. Growing to become a skilled woodcrafter like his mother before him and his brother to follow the path of the Stargazer. During the later years of his education, he received news. His brother, Navan, was chosen among the few to Ascend. He was confident that his brother would ascend; of the two of them, Navan was devout to a fault. Never compromising, never faltering, never questioning the will of Kluex. The day of the ceremony came. His brother was given the proper proceedings and went to scale the tower. At the apex of day, he and the others would jump. Ardaxx watched with pride when finally it was Navan's turn... pride sank to nervousness... then worry... then horror. For his faith, his devotion, Navan never sprouted the wings he was promised as he fell. The loud, audible thud of a fragile being; Navan's so-called "reward" for years of prayer. Ardaxx's world was shattered for it seemed that for all their fancy ceremonies and feasts, the only reward for undying loyalty and obedience to the Stargazers, to Kluex himself... was a sudden and terrible death. Ardaxx was sick with anger, wracked by guilt, consumed with grief. He took out these emotions on his own Avoscript. Pages torn and scattered. It didn't matter. None of it mattered. His brother followed it to the letter, and sent him to the grave. He knew he could not speak of this publically. Doing so was a death-sentence of it's own volition. So he kept it quiet and hidden. As time passed, so did his view on his life up to this point. As he wandered aimlessly through the markets, a fellow avian called to him for a look through a selection of random exotic ornaments and the like. One piece caught his eye, something that reminded him of happier times. A puzzle sphere. The price tag, however, was not so nostalgic. A sudden crash from the distance as a fight broke out, loud enough to draw the attention of all those nearby, including the vendor. Five seconds. He grabbed the sphere and made his way to the nearest dark corner. He just *stole* something. It was sickening... and yet it gave off such a high... like it filled something that was missing, if only for a time. Days passed. While toiling to work the guilt away, a note was dropped by his door. "We know who you are. Meet us after sunfall. And we'll talk." Directions were attached. The knot in Ardaxx's stomach came back. He didn't have a choice. It was either go, or risk being exposed. After sundown, he followed the directions to a T. Waiting there were 3 other avians. They beckoned him closer. As he approached, he noticed the way they looked, farmers from the fields. The one in the center called to him. He asked Ardaxx about his motivation for stealing the sphere. He responded honestly. A pastime, a happier time, him and his brother. Before the sacrifice. The leader asked if he wanted to get even. To take from the Stargazers, what they took from him. He hesitated. The leader, Blazewing, could see this. He offered an alternative. The Stargazers often reserved the best food and pleasures for the clergy and those whose lives would fall to the ground the following day. This, Ardaxx would be happy to do. A plan was made. Before the next Day of Sacrifice, Blazewing and the crew set to raid the storehouses in the dead of night, all was well. Several sacks of food and gold had already been gathered. They were about to finish their rounds... when the guards made a surprise visit. Blazewing and the others darted, leaving Ardaxx behind unaware. Before he could even figure out how or why, the guards had him on the ground, clamped in irons. "This was it.", he thought. He was stealing. From the Stargazers. From the Clergy of Kluex. This was death guarantied to all in Avosian space. He knew it was death. And yet... every moment felt so good. The fate of a thief, well deserved. His punishment was one of irony. For stealing from the Ascended, they saw fit to toss him from the very tower his brother jumped from. He saw the crowds gather, from what little he could hear, the sounds of jeering and disgust was a clear indicator of what to see before he hits bottom. Then... something caught his eye. A haycart. Those don't even cross through the tower's district. It stops. The owner seems to look up. Right at Ardaxx. They seemed to make a gesture of somekind. Not long after, chaos erupts as what appears to be a series of small explosions starting a panic in the streets as well as the tower. It was a long shot. But he took the chance. He dropped. Aiming for the cart of hay. As Ardaxx fell, his life flashed before his eyes. From a devout follower of Kluex, to a disgraceful thief. The only thing that broke that train of thought... was the feeling of flat pain... and hay. Then the cart started moving. And a familiar voice from outside. "You actually figured it out. Not bad, hatchling." Ardaxx had a number of things to say. All of them rude, but to keep his own head, he kept quiet. For now. "You helped us out. Now, we help you out. There's a ship looking to haul some... exotic goods to the Fringe... beyond the Stargazer's reach. Take it. And consider us... even."
