    Name: Blood-patch, Alit'rel

Description: Appears to be a patch of black scales, rolled up into a cylinder and often contained within a capsule of bone or chitin, until unrolled. Its underside is sticky, soft and fleshy. When applied to a wound and brought out of hibernation by contact with blood, it begins to secrete a coagulant from its underside. When the wound is fully scabbed over, it dies and its adhesive loses its stickiness, which causes it to drop off, dry and decompose over time.

Abilities: Excellent blood coagulant and wound patch for first aid.

Limitations: Alive, and vulnerable to things like extreme conditions, heat, cold, et cetera. If killed, it simply does not function. Has a shelf life of about three to five years, dependent on the manufacturer.

Conditional Limitations (Optional): Does not activate in response to things that are not blood or are blood equivalents such as Floran sap or Legionnaire soup.

How does it work: Functions by secreting a coagulant onto wounds, causing them to scab and seal faster, then dying and dropping off to decay naturally.

Flavor text: Used for simple first aid, the Alit'rel is designed for use on the battlefield by even the most incompetent soldier. Unlike its first-aid brother, the suture-worm, the Alit'rel is exported very commonly by Arcoszard medical establishments for use offworld, and can be found in some seasoned mercenaries' personal first aid kits due to its simplicity of use and efficient design.

Attainability: Open, and quite useful given its application.

Same question as the suture-worm app. How long would these survive in storage in not-frozen and not-melting conditions before they need replaced?

Roughly the same answer - a few years. Probably longer - three years, maybe, up to five from a good manufacturer. Same condition of "if you freeze it right, you can keep it as indefinitely as anything else that's alive".
