CAPITALS OF THE GALAXY The Hylotl - Axolotus Written by: @WowGain Art by: @WowGain ~ The Hylotl ~ Axolotia, also known as Kitaikyo by its natives, is a place of refuge and a cradle for the entire culture and civilization of the Hylotl peoples. Chased from their home world of Kaiimaigoki by the invasion of Floran hordes in 2943, almost the entirety of the surviving Hylotl populous came to live on their new home. A rocky world 1.5x the size of Earth, its surface is largely covered in salty oceans and brackish lagoons, something which contrasts greatly with the massive freshwater seas that dominated their homeworld. The small amount of land that exists is largely in a single continent with a surface area of 17.6 trillion square miles (around twice the size of Australia). Axolotia exists as a part of a Trinary system. It mainly orbits a binary system of two K Type orange dwarves, Axolotia A and Axolotia B respectively. The binary stars, however, are also in orbit of an A Type of 2.4 Solar Masses, named Axoshisui at a distance of about 10,000AU. The first planet in its orbit is a rocky world around the size of Venus known as Ignayso. It possesses a rather dense, reflective atmosphere, which actually keeps it at a rather cool temperature given its position in relation to the stars it orbits, with an average surface temperature of about 110 degrees Fahrenheit. It is orbited by a single large barren moon named Shosen. The second planet is the capital planet of Axolotia, orbited by two twin moons, each with about 1/3rd the mass of the moon, Jo and Ko respectively. After an asteroid belt is the largest planet in the system, a massive gas giant with about twice the diameter of Jupiter. It is rather unique among gaseous planets of its size, as it possesses a blue-purple coloration more typical of a smaller ice giant. It is believed that this was caused by an early cannibalization of a proto-ice giant world that orbited near it during the system's formation, causing its outer atmosphere to be coated with a thick covering of the hydrocarbon molecules that provide the characteristic blue and purple hues of ice giant worlds. Further analysis into the giant's atmospheric structure seems to back this up, as it appears there is substantial evidence that below the hydrocarbon layers at the upper atmosphere of the world is a thin layer of hydrogen and helium, underneath which is a colossal amount of metallic hydrogen and helium held at astronomical pressures. The planet is orbited by a total of 48 moons, five of which are spherical and terrestrial. The largest, which doubles as being the largest moon in the system as a whole, is Bohon, a moon with an extremely thick atmosphere composed largely of hydrocarbon compounds. Next is Nanki, a desolate and dead moon with little geological activity and a mere thin exosphere of exhausted gasses released from its surface. Choshoki and Ichia follow, Ichia being slightly smaller. Choshoki is an icy moon with subsurface oceans, and Ichia is an extremely volcanically active world, possessing the largest volcano in the entire system. The smallest of the five is Xinen, a moon which curiously has a brick red surface, seemingly caused by large deposits of iron oxide that nearly cover much of its surface. Fourth down the line is an ice giant with a diameter close to that of Neptune by the name of Kekuroa. It possesses a large ring which curiously orbits the world at a rather steep angle, given its small axial tilt. Five moons fill its orbit, two of which are terrestrial. The dead moon of Nihoji and the iceball moon of Kiishin, sometimes compared to its neighbor Choshoki by astronomers. The fifth and final of the planets in the system is another Jovian gas giant, Seshishin. It is slightly larger in size than twice that of Saturn, and orbited by 22 moons, three of which are terrestrial. Seishui, a moon who's surface is largely composed of phosphorous and titanium compounds which gives it its unique pearl-esque appearance, Kaishi, a geologically moon, and Rojen, a moon rich in copper. Its rich, red surface is caused by large deposits of Copper(I) Oxide, making its hue unique from the color found on Xinen. Like most systems, Axolotia has a large belt of icy comets and asteroids skirting its exterior, filled with many dwarf planets. The largest of these is known as Demura. Second from the bottom and fourth from the top sits various districts of the Capital city, Kaitaikoyo, a dense urban bubble filled with technological innovation and modern splendors. Third from the bottom, one can see the towers of the Royal Palace, home of the new Grand Royal Library and the residence of the royal family and the ceremonial Head of State, the High Shōgun. ) As most of Axolotia's surface is covered in massive, deep oceans, there is a great premium on surface land to habitat, most of which is reserved for political and social elites with the money and power to afford said property. As such, most of the world's population lives under the waves, in the great depths below. The quality of life can vary rather greatly, but most live rather well, enjoying the prosperous economy and technological advancements available to citizens of the Hylotl Empire. The capital city of Kaitaikoyo is known as one of the most dense population zones in the entirety of the Milky Way, with around two trillion living within its extremely busy and compact urban core, which also happens to house one of the liveliest and most competitive technological centers in the galaxy, the innovation found among the countless companies which house themselves here competing with the city of Prime in the MiniKnog in terms of scientific and technological research.
