Name: Floran-plant symbiosis, Floran facilitated growth, “Greenfinger’s gift”

Description: Floran-plant symbiosis is an extremely common Floran mutation that gives the Floran in question the ability to control the growth of most photosynthetic life. It affects an estimated eighth of all living florans and is believed to be native to florus itself. The symbiosis manifests in a variety of ways. Some florans can excrete the proper chemical compounds from a gland right underneath their claws, others inject it through hollow fangs or produce it in their saliva, and some are even forced to extract the compounds by plucking out and distilling some cuttings of their foliage in a series of complicated rituals. Regardless of the method, though, all florans with the mutation produce a liquid that can greatly speed up plant growth and be used to control the shapes it takes.

    Abilities:

-Tends to work for any stationary, photosynthetic organism that is carbon based and accepts nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as macronutrients.

-When the chemical cocktail is applied in large amounts to the base of a plant, growth can be increased ten, or even a hundredfold. New vines can grow in days, and tree branches can form in mere weeks. Seedlings will also mature rapidly.

-If the cocktail is applied to an incision in the stem or trunk of a plant, a new stem or branch will grow from there. This is how the shape of plants are controlled.

-The cocktail can be used to graft plants together and make a cutting take root.

-Small amounts of the cocktail can be used in first aid for other florans. It can promote healing in wounds and even be used to transplant body parts, provided the Floran knows exactly what they are doing. This can even be used for a select amount of other plant species- a Floran could graft a flower from the ground onto its head, for example.

-Most florans with this mutation harbour a strain of harmless bioluminescent bacteria that reproduce in the glands that produce the fluid, and are excreted along with it. When large amounts of this bacteria are applied to a section of a plant, a pretty glowing pod will form and grow.

    Conditional Abilities (Optional):

-Works best with simple plant life that uses a cell wall to support itself. Examples include grass, ferns and vines.

-Most Floran also work best with the plant life on the planet they are native to. Due to their hyperadaptability, these preferred species can change quickly from generation to generation.

-Florans that spend decades honing their abilities and craft can create wonders of nature and technology, such as the plant-guns Florans are famous for. These florans are rarely anything but Greenfingers.

    Limitations:

-To excrete the chemical cocktail, mutated Floran must have an extra intake of potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus in their diet. This can be difficult for some tribal florans, which need to be adaptable and rarely get the chance to eat in excess.

-Overproducing the chemical can lead to exhaustion and nutrient deficiencies.

-Underfed Floran can not produce the chemicals.

-The more unfamiliar the plantlife, the harder it is to work with.

-Obviously the plant still takes days to grow, and even accelerated growth is invisible to the naked eye.

    Conditional Limitations (Optional):

-Plant life that relies on something more complicated than a cell wall to remain upright may be more difficult to work with if the Floran does not know how to facilitate the growth on this alternate structure. This can lead to irregularities in plant growth.

-Bioluminescent bacteria are generally not found in the Floran that must boil their foliage to extract the right chemicals.

-Cannot speed the growth of already fast-growing species like bamboo that rely on cell elongation- it will grow slightly faster, but not tenfold like other species. There is a limit.

-The mutation can very quickly vanish for Floran populations that live alongside other species and have little use for the manipulation of plant life. This means that it’s rare for Floran without a tribal background.

-Florans infected with Heffel’s disease can transmit the infection through the fluid they produce.

How does it work: The chemical cocktail produced by the mutation is a mixture of macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) and plant hormones like indolebutyric acid and salicylic acid, both of which are used for rooting. The chemical mixture encourages growth in the areas it is applied to and protects young shoots from infections and disease.

Flavor text: Not all Floran with the mutation automatically become greenfinger, but most greenfingers have the mutation. Tribal Floran that have the gift but do not become greenfingers very rarely use their abilities unless the tribe is doing very well. However, those that leave their planet and take advantage of the modern food industry are a different story entirely.

Referenced Technologies (Optional): Floran lore, Heffel’s disease mentioned once

    Me am the gradeboy.

First question: could you please provide an example of how this practice would work on something as large as a tree? Is this a one-and-done dose or would accelerating the growth of something that large require multiple doses?

Basically any tree would require multiple doses and probably take a longer time because it has to worry about bark formation, not just stems and such. If a floran wanted to redirect a tree's growth, they'd cut the bark at a certain place and put the fluid there, which would cause a new branch to form. As it grew, they could make more cuts and basically shape the branch, or tree, however they please. I imagine a lot of florans would use trees specifically to "grow" buildings, by interlocking branches together to eventually make one, big structure. This whole app is basically an attempt to explain how florans make the big techno-organic cities that are written to exist on Florus, so stuff written in there is a good example of what the results would look like.

A particularly large creation could easily take years of care to make:

    Or decades, even generations:

Simpler stuff, like grass, vines and flowers, take a lot less time, but even they would probably need multiple doses. Only really simple things, like growing an extra leaf on a flower and nothing else, would take one dose.

Makes sense. As long as this clarification is kept in mind by future users who care to utilize this mutation, I'm fine with it.

On the grounds that this app helps tie together a lot of the "huh?" when it comes to Floran architecture, and seems reasonably balanced in terms of both potential micro and macro usage, I give this app a Pass.
