Name: Keelp, folium piscis, Florus Kelp Eel Description: A long, thick eel-like plant-fish that has the appearance of red or green kelp. But it moves and has a large mouth at its front, as well as four beady eyes across its head which provide vision in all directions. A school of Keelp hiding within a kelp forest. Behavior: Keelp are very social and friendly both with other Keelp and people, they have a tendency to wrap themselves around objects and other creatures in a form of 'hugging'. When scared, they shift themselves around to attempt to camouflage themselves as kelp to hide from predators. Tamability: Keelp can't be trained, they aren't smart enough to allow it. Where is it found?: While originally found on Florus, they've since spread to many planets throughout the galaxy as a farm-able fish. Reasonably, they could be found in any colony that brought fish for farming or introduced them to the ecosystem. Rarity: Common. Diet/Method of gaining nutrients and energy: Keelp are omnivores, but prefer plantlife. Products?: Keelp are a staple in many colonies for their delicious taste and ease of farming. Their "meat" is incredibly succulent and high in nutrients. The most common way of preparation is in a manner similar to bacon, where it will have a similar crunch and texture to the meat. Reproduction: Keelp reproduces sexually with other Keelp, laying several dozen eggs which take a two to four weeks to hatch, and two to three months to reach adulthood. Keelp can reproduce throughout the year, spawning potentially hundreds of other Keelp. Size: A Keelp is around two feet long on average, and around three inches in diameter. Weight: They weigh 25lbs on average. Lifespan: A Keelp in captivity lives around ten years, in the wild they live around twenty. Abilities: Keelp have 360 degree vision, and are able to disguise themselves flawlessly as normal kelp or similar underwater plantlife.
