Name: Displacer Plates, Over-Armor Camo Panels Description: Displacer plates are thick invisibility panels capable of being slotted over existing armor. They are typically a hexagonal pattern, though this is not a rule. . . Universally, they are not seamless. Even when fully ‘invisible’, a thin grid of the underlying person is visible. Abilities: - Renders armored individuals mostly invisible. - Unlike invisibility cloaks, the thick panels allow for more seamless tracking. This prevents the ‘blur’ effect some invisibility tech has. Limitations: - Leaves behind a visible grid of seams. This imperfect invisibility makes spotting the user possible. The closer you are to the user, the easier it is. - Like with invisibility cloaks, there still needs to be space for eye-holes or other ways of seeing, and you are visible under IR. Conditional Limitations: - Covering the panels themselves completely negates the effect. Spray paint, plasma, even significant amounts of dust can counteract the effect. - The panels themselves are not armored. When shot, the bullet hole only adds to the amount of the user that is seen. - EMPing the user will result in the panels shutting off for three turns. How does it work: Displacer Plates make use of nanosensor cells aligned on the exterior of the panels. These cells project an image of their surroundings overtop the user, allowing them to blend in. The effect is superior to the Invisibility Cloak, producing no shimmer. . . However, the thickness of the paneling prevents it from covering the user completely, keeping parts of their body visible. Flavor text: Displacer Plates are a relatively tame creation with modern invisibility technology, and are employed by various groups for long-distance stealth operations. However, they tend to fail for anything up close and personal. . . The Forlorn have recently created their own variety, following experimentation on invisibility cloaks by OR-43/70459 “Creep”.
