    Name: Mnestics

Description: Mnestic drugs are a class of drug designed to promote memory formation and recollection, to either therapeutic or superhuman degrees depending on the administered dosage. Side effects can be potentially severe if abused.

    Abilities:
    • Aids in the formation and recollection of short and long-term memories.
      • Users are able to more easily memorize minor details and events with a minor dose; this dose is typically used for psychiatric patients suffering from issues with memory loss or formation.
      • Users can easily recall details and even entire conversations with moderate dose.
      • At a significantly large dose, users form memories from every perceived detail and word; everything someone is wearing, every object in a room, and every word a person says in a conversation.
    • Can assist in therapy designed to regain lost memories.
    Conditional Abilities:
    • Memory Readers: To memory reading devices, memories augmented by mnestic drugs are more difficult to read.
    • Memory Wiping: Mnemectomies are more difficult to precisely perform on memories augmented by mnestic drugs due to the density of memories present and the existence of more synaptic connections between memories. Mnemectomies also pose a greater risk of collateral memory loss and brain damage on augmented memories.
    • Memory Clairsentience: Clairsentient psionic abilities that read memories may inflict sensory overload on the psion if used on a memories augmented by mnestic drugs.
    Limitations:
    • Augmented memories take up more neural 'real estate', using up more neurons and synaptic connections in order to accompany larger and more detailed memories.
      • Long-term use of high dosage mnestics can lead to permanent brain damage as memories begin to overwrite vital parts of the brain; motor function can suffer, as well as permanent personality damage and insanity. Abusers may remain in a state of constant memory recollection, inflicting severe headaches and insomnia unless sedated.
        • The severity depends on the dosage and how long the mnestics are taken.
        • Mania is also a symptom of long-term use.
    • Headaches are common when recalling memories augmented by mnestic drugs, depending on the dosage.
    • Attention is still required for the formation of memories.
    • Can cause inadvertent recollection of memories; for example, irrelevant stimuli may trigger augmented memories.

How does it work: Mnestics work by targeting neural pathways in the brain that are vital to memory formation, encouraging neurogenesis and synaptogenesis in memory regions while stimulating them at the same time, allowing for the easier formation and recollection of memories as they are able to form easier and form more connections.

Flavor text: Mnestic drugs were first developed for treatment of psychiatric patients suffering from dissociative amnesia and attention disorders like ADHD, allowing them to more easily recall information and regain lost memories. Mnestics were also adapted for use in non-medical sectors; military spies capable of recalling immense details without the use of recording devices, or academics using them to enhance their studies, or used by ordinary people to memorize complex things such as long sequences of characters. They also have an understudied side effect of offering resistance to medical procedures that wipe memories.

Hi I will begin grading this today.

Are these typically administered in pill form or something else?
Also, can you give me typical dosages and how much at minimum would constitute an overdose or otherwise dangerous level of these drugs in one's system? If they're only in pill form or something, just let me know how many pills.
How long does the effect that allows one to form memories last? Are there signs it is taking effect one would be aware of?
How long until these typically take effect?

They can be administered in any form. Therapeutic doses are around 600 mg / 10 cc, and dangerous levels can be anywhere over 3600 mg / 60 cc. Mnestic drugs have a biological half life of 4 hours, though extended release (ER) formulas for mnestics exist that prolong the effects with a lower gradual dosage. Absorption time depends on route of administration like most drugs (orally takes longest depending on whether it is taken on an empty stomach or not). It works when the patient is able to more accurately and immediately recall memories with higher details.
