Name: Kal'it'lath, "Blunt", "Haze", "Lizard's Blood" Description: In its refined or synthetic form, the drug appears as a dark blue liquid, usually drank for effect. It can also be taken by inhaler or atomizer, or used as an ingredient in cooking to make edibles. Abilities: When taken, the drug induces a sense of euphoria and relaxation, as well as heightening the senses of touch and taste for a period of about three hours, dependent on the user's tolerance, the dosage, body size, etc. Limitations: Until it wears off, the drug reduces the senses of hearing and smell, as well as causing a sense of lethargy and difficulty of movement. After the drug initially wears off, the euphoric feeling is replaced with a sense of intense, crippling despair. The negative side effects can last up to six hours beginning at the point of dosage, or approximately double the duration of the positive effects. It is also highly addictive; more than a single dose in a 48-hour period can cause a chemical and psychological dependency. Overdose, which is usually a mere two standard "safe" doses within the same dose period, can cause seizures, neurological damage and death. Conditional Limitations (Optional): Species that rely on echolocation (i.e. Arcos) may have difficulty "seeing" when taking this drug, given it reduces hearing. How does it work: The drug originates as a natural poison, structured to cause animals that attempt to consume it to have a quick death and fertilize the soil around the plant. Like many other natural poisons, it was picked up by a sapient species and its effect was repurposed in less severe fashion. Flavor text: Originally refined from an Arcoszard fruit, the drug was picked up by an offworld corporation and synthesized in a laboratory; the fruit itself is an export, but in the modern day, the drug is more commonly taken in a synthetic, pure form. It has become a somewhat widespread drug in Fringe circles despite its addictive properties - it is largely still used in its natural, fruit-extracted form on the homeworld, but the laboratory variant is most common offworld.
