    Claws of lightning

    Description

The Claws of Lightning are a pair of black gauntlets that reach up to the wearer's shoulders. While the gauntlets have a stunning amount of detail and intricate and complex patterns that are woven into them, the most notable features are the golden adornments on the wrist and the razor sharp clawed fingertips. The gauntlets are made of expensive and rare ixokin silk dyed black with insulated fingers, while the adornments, mechanisms and claws are made of gold.

    Abilities

Aside from being used as actual claws and handy letter openers, the claws have the ability to be fired at a target of choice and to discharge electric pulses, much like a taser could. The weapons are used in situations when a target needs to be subdued or an advantage needs to be gained in a situation. The electric charge can be controlled to deal lesser or more and even lethal damage if the target it subject to several high current pulses.

    Limitations

Range - The range of the claws is variable on how they are used, but they can easily be outranged. The gauntlets can fire the claws at their target up to 8 meters / 26 feet. The user could also choose to use the claws as melee weapons, but in a melee fight, they'd easily be outranged by any melee or ranged weapon.

Accuracy - While all ten claws can be fired at a target, it is hard to fire multiple claws at once, depending on how much fingers can effectively be aimed and how far the target is away from the user. Also, if more claws are fired at a long range, there's the possibility of the wires getting entangled.

Uses & recharge time - The user is able to change the intensity of the shock that is dealt, but the higher the shock, the sooner the battery needs to be recharged. A lethal shock is most likely to drain the batteries entirely, while a stunning shock can be used up to three times. In general, a contact of one half of a second will repel and startle the target. One to two seconds results in a dazed mental situation. Three seconds can cause loss of muscle control and loss of balance and disorientation, but long use also means that the battery will drain faster.

    How does it work

The Claws, as mentioned before, function much like a taser does. The key differences lie in the ability to control the shock and to be able to reel the claws back in using the bracelet on the wrist that holds a small mechanism that sends the electric shock through the conductors. After being fired, at least two of the conductors need to be connected to the target in order to shock to be able to send one or several shocks through their body.

Before using the electric features of the claws, a charged battery has to be inserted into one of the bracelets that is mounted on the wrist. After usage, they can be taken out again and recharged. An empty battery takes up to half a day to be fully charged again. Though someone is able to carry around charged batteries, changing them in combat takes time and a little finesse due to the design of the bracelet, which favored design over functionality. More basic and less complex designs could feature an easier to access slot for the battery.

    Flavor text

The Claws of lightning are designed by one of five weaponsmiths that work for the Welton family. They were designed and created to match Constance's sharp personality and her fondness for cats. The gauntlets, along with the claws were a wedding gift given to her by her father in law. Constance quickly favored the elegance of the claws over the short sword that she still keeps on her on occasion.

    Attainability
Open. The only way to obtain the claws is to get them off Constance herself or to find a way have them recreated.

Hey Randy, I'll be taking a look at this. First things first, you're only supposed to choose one category. I'm going to request that you remove one of them. Secondly, as the concept of taser claws is one that isn't particularly hard to reproduce I'm going to request that you change the attainability to Open.

Looks like you accidentally edited the tag to Open instead of attainability.

That aside, I've a few other concerns. If these function like a taser, then do multiple claws need to connect to stock the target? If so, I'd like you to edit that in. Also, do both claws share a single battery? Is this battery replaceable?

Yeah, I was editing it on my phone real quick, but I think it should be alright now!

At least two claws need to be connected to the target, but that shouldn't be too hard if someone shoots the claws in a pistol fashioned manner, using the index and middlefinger.
A battery is placed in each bracelet. They can be taken out and charged but that takes around half a day. Multiple batteries can be carried around, but changing the batteries requires a little finesse, due to the design of the bracelet which - aside from functionality - had to look elegant. In more basic designs, one could choose functionality over form and looks, but it'll be nearly impossible to change batteries during a fight due to the disadvantages that'd come in doing so.

Alright. Those are my concerns addressed. Initial pass.

Hey. I'm sorry it took a bit for me to get to this application, but I had one last thing I wanted to address.

Most shock weapons in the GC typically aren't lethal for a reason, and that's because they're shock weapons and it's necessary for balance. It's hard to really pinpoint exactly where electricity is going to enter and leave the body in order to stop the heart or cause brain damage or something, but we do know it only takes 2 amps in order to do so. The reason I have a distaste for lethal shock weaponry is simply due to the fact that you could poke someone anywhere, like the foot, with something that gives a lethal shock and still kill them, even through armor, and all it takes is that brief moment of contact. Would you be willing to compromise and make them nonlethal, or at least only potentially lethal at the max setting and after repeated shocks in certain areas?

I see your concerns and I am willing to revise the conditions on when the weapon is lethal and when not, but making it entirely non-lethal beats a major purpose of the claws. I personally think that the conditions are as are good as they are, though I could tweak them if needed. As stated in the "Limitations", a lethal shock drains the battery entirely, for it already is on the max setting. Repeated shocks could work, but if the target isn't able to pull the probes out after the first shock / seconds, they're going to end up on the floor anyway. Once the target is stunned, I suppose the user of the gloves could move in for an easier aim and both shoot the specific areas and finish the job with her other hand.

All I want is for them to not be basically an instant kill potentially if you get stuck with one anywhere while it's on a potentially lethal setting. The important thing is that it's potentially lethal, and not just them getting stuck wherever, and then immediately fried. Similar to how repeat back-to-back shocks with a Boltcaster would probably be potentially lethal.

If that's understood I'll give it a pass.

Before giving your pass, I think we should work something out. I don't consider myself to be someone to kill someone instantly with the claws, but since I had to make them public and since not everyone is a peaceful player like I consider myself to be, it'll be good to have boundaries. I do not know how to tackle the problems from your concerns, though.

All I need you to do is agree, that as a condition of this app, it takes prolonged exposure in the form of repeated shocks at the highest setting in order to be lethal, and with the claws positioned correctly, ideally.
