Hey guys! It’s Majo. The staff and I have began to notice that some of you are asking for an FAQ. On the other hand, some of you are asking questions which should be common knowledge for your characters. This can be an issue that spreads misinformation both ICly and OOCly. To solve this, we’re holding this question thread! Here’s a few general rules on how to conduct yourself in the thread. These are just to keep things clean and concise. No joke questions please! No heckling, jeering, or teasing people for their question, here or elsewhere. All questions are allowed here (except, you know, joke questions). No debate over rules, lore, or general staff statements are to be made in the thread. Discussion in the discord or elsewhere is allowed, however. Here are some questions that were recently asked in the Staff Q&A, which may be included in the FAQ and do not need to be asked again. How do I get started? How/Where do I become whitelisted? Who should I approach for assistance with __________? What timezone does the server run on? What exactly are rules/regulations for independent smaller factions? What is the grading process for X, Y and Z applications like? What are the Obsecrians, Anoloa, Chinauts, etc.? After we’re done with this thread, we’ll be using these questions to help make and FAQ, which will hopefully help you guys out in the future. Happy posting!
At exactly what times and under what (possibly specific) circumstances does staff open or close its doors to new hires? What are some ways I can help my community and the people in it? What are some good things and methods to keep in mind when writing or conducting a character?
Generally, hiring new staff is rather sporadic. While this might not be helpful, just know that when you submit an application for staff, it is typically read over that day. You are then put into consideration for when a new hire is needed. The best thing you can do as a community member to contribute to the community is to simply be active! Be present on the forums, discord, and server. Next would be to vote for the server on the Starbound server listing website, which helps us gain the visibility needed to reach more players. Lastly, being aware of the rules and those who break them is what helps keep our community safe and fun for everyone. Never feel afraid to report a player who is causing issues. This is a difficult question to answer, because everyone makes characters differently, but in general a good rule to stand by is feasibility. Is your character or what they are doing possible within the limitations of the setting? Does your characters have strengths AND weaknesses? Are those weaknesses in proportion to or greater than their strengths? Also consider consistency and change when playing your character. Some character traits are hard to change, but things like beliefs and outward demeanor may change over time due to experiences. The biggest obstacle with the site itself, that being the forums, is the lack of activity in them. We're currently working on posting more often on the forums to hopefully persuade other players to also participate. The site has been gaining a bit more traction, but it's still something we're working toward.
I'm an older school gamer who used to post quite a bit, this is something I can totally help with, and will post as much as I can. Also thanks for doing a FAQ, The transparency with the staff is awesome.
For the upcoming event, you used a lot of H.P. Lovecraft inspired themes and names, lore-wise what in the hot fuck is going on? Was HP Lovecraft a person? If not; then are you just integrating his work into the IC lore? Thanks in advance, FUCK COPS!
The rest of staff have been very lenient with me in making this event. H.P. Lovecraft has always been a figure in Galaxy Citizen in different shapes and forms. Within the context of my event, I would suppose you just have to wait and find out! Things are starting to unfold and you're getting information slowly but surely. Afterward I'll be sure to create an outline or overview of sort to show really how it affects the lore.
