Name: Flying Sword, Boomerang Blade, Heli-Chopper Description: A thin-bladed sword with grooves cut into the side of the blade to reduce the amount of material and keep the weight down. There are a few chemical thrusters embedded into the back of the blade, near the tip. A miniature computer is built into the hilt, which has some tungsten and osmium integrated into it's construction to keep the center of mass down near the hilt. Abilities: It's a Flying Sword: The sword can fly, spinning at high speeds while it does. This means that anything it flies into will likely get Chopped. It's not as effective as a vibroblade, but the chemical thrusters still make it swing pretty fast. Remote Controlled: The Flying Sword can be directed with either a gauntlet, or a neural implant. Conditional Abilities (Optional): Still a Sword: You can swing it around like a regular sword, although it'll definitely be awkward compared to a standard sword. Returns on it's Own: With either a pre-programmed gesture from the gauntlet, or a thought from the neural implant, the sword can be given the command to return to your hand. It'll then follow a special flight path that is intended to keep the blade from hitting the wielder on accident, however it's strongly recommended that you keep your hand held away from the rest of your body while the blade is returning, to minimize the chance of stabbing yourself in the chest. Limitations: Not EMP Shielded: If the Flying Sword is EMP'd while it's flying, it will wildly lose control of where it's flying, quickly crashing into the ground or a nearby surface. Limited Fuel: To keep the weight down in the handle and allow the blade to keep the copter action working properly, the chemical thrusters only have enough fuel for a few minutes of flight before needing to refuel. Conditional Limitations (Optional): Poorly Weighted for Standard Use: With the weight being down in the hilt instead of at the base of the blade, the Flying Sword is awkward to swing normally. Must be a Regular Sword: While you could make a Flying Sword out of a regular sword or a monoblade, you wouldn't be able to make one out of a vibroblade or a plasma blade. The vibroblade's vibrations throw off the flying action, and a plasma blade would damage it's own thrusters too much to actually fly for more than a few seconds before needing to be repaired. How does it work: https://youtu.be/K0POjjIC5xs?si=6P50AUGsmTDKLy47 It works like this, but with chemical thrusters instead of a propeller. The computer in the hilt gives instructions to the chemical thrusters embedded in the blade, and it can be remote controlled with either a gauntlet being worn (in which case programmed gestures would give instructions like "that way" or "come back") or a neural implant (in which case control is greatly improved) Flavor text: It's a flying sword! Sort of, at least. It's a sword, and it flies, but it's not really how everyone envisioned it. Still, looks cool as hell.
